On Chris Whitley's final album, released just after his death, he does a number of interesting covers.

Iggy and the Stooges - I Wanna Be Your Dog
The Flaming Lips - Mountainside
The Passions - German Film Star
and this one:
Gary Numan's Are Friends Electric?

Tragically, Chris died late last year after recording this album.
Here's a link to his website where you can find more clips.

Billy Bragg lends his highly identifiable style to Xmal Deutschland's "Girl In The Iron Mask" with a "Man In The Iron Mask" interpretation. Haunting, and with no shortage of sincerity as per the original, Billy Bragg's version adds yet another layer of credibility onto his own mythos.

One of the best new wave songs to be covered later by a band from the new wave era: The Church covering Ultravox's "Hiroshima Mon Amour" (from their 1999 covers album A Box of Birds). A great interpretation that rivals the original IMO.

I was going to start a thread about new wave covers, but a search revealed that I didn't need to.

Anyway, here's a cover of the song, "Band of Gold", by a group called Modern Romance.
