Okay, I got into some hot water with the last poll and I'm sure I've left quite a few worthy candidates out, but hey, it's all in the name of fun (and good conversation)

Sure, the Clash were longer lasting, but the Pistols had the comparative cultural impact of an atom bomb. They changed the rules of the game. Besides, the Clash stayed together too long. They should have broke up after London Calling and spared everyone Sandinista!

The Stranglers were pub rocking trend-hoppers. The Jam forfeited all claims to punk with the release of "Precious".. The Fall were more post-punk than anything else.

What about Generation X and Wire?

I had to go with The Sex Pistols because they were the spark that ignited the whole scene worldwide. I'm not saying they started punk, but they brought the attention to it. However, 30 years on listeneing to Nevermind The Bollocks I now hear a 70's hard rock record, albeit a really good 70's hard rock record.

For staying power I have to go with THe Damned's debut LP Damned Damned Damned. A finer example of 70's Brit Punk you'd be hardpressed to find (aside from the horrible 'Feel The Pain').

And I've always had a soft spot for Charlie & co. in the UK Subs. In fact I was just listening to 'A Different Kind Of Blues' a few days ago.

The poll didn't ask who had the greatest impact, but who was the greatest band.
With that in mind, The Clash turned out the most lasting and best music of the punk generation. They get my vote.

London Calling will stand at the top rank of albums long after anyone else's from that era.

The Sex Pistols may have set a lot of people free in some ways, but the Clash gave them purpose.

Pistols. There's great music in all the artists listed, and the Pistols were NOT prolific, but they're more iconic than the rest to me.

When I think punk, I instantly think of safety pins and the Pistols.

Chelsea.They stuck to their punk roots,looked the part,sounded the
part and I beleive spawned Generation X.I was only Thinking(F*****g

I chose The Fall. I'm sorry but "Live At The Witch Trials" is a classic..it was a rather tough decision to make from the list I admit.

I've seen them live a couple of times and they put on a great show. I'm partial to their Brix Smith years where they put together a string of some pretty good records.
