England, being a relatively small country, is more prone to media manipulation and hype than America. Notice how the "crazy frog" ringtone topped the british charts, yet didn't even hit the top 40 in the US. Oasis, I feel, are the same way. Due to their extracurricular antics and beatlesque songs, they struck a chord with the tabloid-addicted UK audience, who gladly lapped up everything they did. Pure hype. Notice how when they first toured America, they were playing to half-to-quarter-sized audiences, and ultimately temporarily imploded. Free of the british hype-machine, their true measure was tested by America, and they were found wanting.

So oasis and radio head are better than led zepplin? Radio head and oasis? Abba had a much better album than both of those bands. I just think we can look deeper into who is #1.

Just think about all the great artists that were overlooked and missing from that Top 10. Led Zep, Cream, Hendrix, Rolling Stones, etc...
4 out of 3 people would rather do this than listen to Oasis...

led zepplin broke in the US long before UK. I'm partial to Radiohead (if we only look at the last 20 year). But I'd agree Led Zepplin deserves some props. Which ABBA albumn is better than OK Computer or the Bends? Most of my musically minded friends consider those two Radiohead releases classics, second to none. NWO is the first place I met so many Radiohead haters.

I like radiohead and oasis. But ask someone on the street to sing a song and they will just look at you. Ask same person an abba song. They are just more popular.

This is such a shit list. I think part of the problem is that "British Hit Singles & Albums" are a part of Guinness Book of World Records. This list is likely just idiots off the street and not music fans with any shred of judgement. A similar NME-only list a couple of years back came out with this list below which looks more astute. Not a huge difference but enough key ones to make it more palatable:
