I'm far from being the best example of Christianity, but am I the only believer on this site? Is it supposed to be "cool" to slam anyone who has religious convictions (that aren't wacky)? If it is, I'll keep on being "uncool". And I'm sure as hell not "weak minded". You live through the crap I've lived through over the years, and you'd be stupid not to believe in a higher power.

Someone, ANYONE tell me I'm not alone here.

I don't think you are alone here Hutter. I am Catholic, not strict, but I believe in God and I bring my children up to believe also.
My oldest just made his confirmation a couple of weeks ago.

Raised Catholic, still make it to church on occasion.

I've noticed some religion bashing (mostly jokes), but no more than say bashing ones political or moral views. I've even witnessed one religous poster bashing all the other religions. Didn't score him too many points around here.

Yeah man, what thread brought this on?
I have had a few fights on this board before concerning the same thing. There was a time when every thread was bashing catholics. I don't care so much about that. But it was no one else could be bashed. I think every religion should be bashed equally. I respect all religions and would come to the defence of any one being bashed. (does that make sense?) But true, I respect all religions. I am catholic but I realize all the things wrong with it and every other religion. I am going through all the motions with my kids and church because at a young age, the church does teach alot of good things. Then when they get older they can come to their own conclusions.

I'm a firm believer but I don't come to this site to discuss religion or defend my faith. Not the forum for it.

Well, since you asked ... I joke about it because it's so fucking mystifying to me how people still believe in this day and age in the face of all the evidence to the contrary. Sure, I'll agree with you that some people are less psychotic in their beliefs than others, but having ANY part of ANY of it is just contributing to the single largest cause of most, if not all of the largest problems in the world.

To me, it's akin to saying you're not as big a Nazi because you only contributed $5 to Stormfront when others contribute much more.

That's just a start.

I couldn't care less about being "cool", as I'm sure you know.

You are totally right and I agree but I just put it out there. I'm not going to fight anyone for their beliefs on this site. To each his own.

I can understand some of the backlash against religion. Atheists and non-believers have to some degree been marginalized in this country since it's foundation. Eventually the pendulum will move the other way.

You mean like this lovely quote from GW?

"No, I don't know that atheists should be considered as citizens, nor should they be considered patriots. This is one nation under God."

Ack, that GW quote![xx(]

I do not bash (organized) religion. I just don't believe in it. But far be it from me to put it down just for that.

But I know religious convictions are wacky, so I don't see the dividing line, except for maybe nutty and nuttier.

God is all powerfull and can take care of himself. It is we who hurt. I for one believe in God but I see him more as a force of balance. A balance that if broken makes us hurt.
