The facts we hate, we'll never meet
Walking down the road, everybody yelling:
"Hurry up! Hurry up!"
But I'm waiting for you; I must go slow,
I must not think bad thoughts;
What is this world coming to?
Both sides are right,
But both sides murder.
I give up--why can't they?
I must not think bad thoughts.
I must not think bad thoughts.
I must not think bad thoughts.

Basically, almost anything by X.

All I can think about is "When are we leaving?",
Everytime I think of you I want a cigarette,
Man chooses himself, hero with a thousand faces,
It's the third night and the walls are shaking"[/i]--Tuxedomoon, "Desire"</font>

Those lyrics are almost as powerful as "Hey" from FEAR's second album:

Hey
Hey Hey
Hey
Hey Hey Hey Hey Hey
Hey Hey
Hey

Oh brother, well I have to admit I love that song [^]

My personal lyrical pick goes to:
"Babies" by Real Life

"So you're on the frontline sipping wine
Sipping German wine from crystal steel
Last suppers being served too soon
Soon I'm gonna need another meal
a new deal"

I like the first verse, but think the second and third verses go nowhere, are oddly structured, and completely derail the song. Not that Holly Knight* was ever a great lyricist, but what I would have presumed was about child abuse by the time it starts, I don't have a clue what it's about by the time it's over. And I hated the "Is anyone there" part in the chorus so much I used to change it to "Will our wounds ever heal" when howling along with it. At least my lyrics rhymed.

* Yeah, I know Michael Des Barres has co-write credit, but having heard the stuff he penned without her, I can't imagine it was anything more than "change a word, get a third."

"Water was running, children were running
You were running out of time
Under the mountain, a golden fountain
Were you praying at the Lares shrine?"

- "Cities in Dust" by Siouxsie and the Banshees. Now that's a great verse.

I remember when I was very little liking Cities In Dust... without knowing waht the lyrics said... I'm so glad I understand them know... makes the song even better and I thought that was impossible.

*Cue in whistling*

"In a manner of speaking
I just want to say
That i could never forget the way
You told me everything
By saying nothing"

God, I hate that song.

Actually, I like the lyrics to "Sloppy (I Saw My Baby Gettin'), by Devo.

"I saw my baby yesterdaaaaay,
Saw my baby yesterday!
She spent her money on a caaaaaar,
Spent her money on a BRAND! NEW CAR!
It didn't get her very far;
You know it didn't. GET HER! VERY! FAR!
So my baby said to meeeeeeeee,
You know my baby SAID! TO! ME!
You know my baby, she said sloppy,
She said sloppy, she said sloppy,
I think I missed the hole-la hole-la hole...laaaa..."

The actual lyrics don't do justice to Mothersbaugh's delivery. Short, to the point, and very crass. I adore it.

How can two souls still eat together
When life has lost its taste

And I Fell Back Alone - World Party

And God said "Look after the planet".
But Man said "Fuck You".

And God Said... - World Party

"More Than This" -- Roxy Music

"It was fun for a while.
There was no way of knowing.
Like dream in the night,
Who can say where we´re going?"

I once used that quote when I announced my resignation from a job.
