Why would an atheist care about the # 666 when it is of biblical origins? If it's just to be annoying I can understand that.

I don't know about eight6 but I don't really care about it outside of the entertainment value. It's just a small part of a much larger joke. Sort of like pointing out to someone that has just busted a mirror that they're doomed for the next seven years. Ludicrous to the joker, not so much to the person the joke is on.

And now for a totally hypothetical question for xtians:

What would xtians do if today turned out to be the day we discovered a cure for cancer (I'd say AIDS but I don't think all xtians necessarily want that cured), ended world hunger, and ended our dependence on foreign oil?

Speaking for myself, I'd be thankful. The number 666 has nothing to do with the Bible anyways, it's just one of those things created generations back by some heretics who put it upon themselves to make additions to the scriptures. REAL xtians don't put any stock into it.

Reveleation 13:18 speaks of 666 being the number of the wild beast.
Revelation 13:2 says that the dragon gives its power to this beast.
Revelation 20:2 identifies the dragon as Satan.
666 = evil.
