In the late 80's I was still into the early stuff, but I started listening to techno/dance and earl 90's pop.

YES! YES! YES! I JUST discovered this band! I slo JUST found out that the driving force behind Underworld is the same guy who was responsible for one of NWO's all time fave "Doot Doot."

During the late '80s, early '90s I was mostly listening to my old faves who were still hanging in there: Cure, Depeche Mode, New Order, The The, Elvis Costello and Big Audio Dynamite.

I was attending music school in Georgia and working for the Georgia Satallites so I really got into blues based bar bands during that time as well as the Georgia scene.

After reading everything here, I realize this may have been the single most open-minded time period musically for me.
I was spinning records at college parties and at KASR (ASU). I was in a record pool, receiving probably 20-30 12" records a week for free[8D]. I was playing all kinds of house, freestyle, rap, new wave and "college rock". Personally, I was listening to "college rock" and punk but rap was gaining steadily. I actually liked a lot of the stuff I was playing from the other genres as well and even liked some "hair" bands. After the 90's began, rap was becoming less appealing to me and I headed into my strictly "Alternative" period. I don't know if I have ever had a time frame where I would so freely listen to music from so many styles. Hmmm. Does that make it bad or good????

I was listening to everything. Funk, new wave, disco, metal, bluegrass, reggae, zydeco, big band, everything! Still am.

I posted on this one earlier but I realized in the late '80's, I started listening to just about everything that was coming out of the Stock-Aitken-Waterman production house in the UK.

Now I look back on that and I wonder why.

Well in the late 80's early 90's I was progressing from 60's Psychedelia and Acid Rock right into Acid House and House Music. Bands like "A Guy Called Gerald" and DJ's like Danny Rampling got my attention. Thus began a muscial odyssey through Dance Music that has led to where I am today. Through Dance Music, I have dsicovered the wonderous sounds of Electronica and New Wave, discovering the delights of Depeche Mode, Echo and the Bunnymen, The Cure and The Smiths. Also I was tuning in to 80's soul and jazz, listening to the likes of Roy Ayers, Gil Scott-Heron, Jamiroquai and Brand New Heavies. Oh yeah and the matter of a band called Prefab Sprout!!! I loved the late 80's and still listen to the music!

the 80's was the era that i took music seriously depending on my moods.listening to bands like icicle works,wiretrain, seona dancing,
leather nun, a flock of seagulls, visage, psychedlic furs, stray cats
duran duran,echo and the bunnyman to name a few, and until now i still listen to them in my collection. sometimes it rekindles some memories of that very diverse past w/c actually one of the best moments music's evolution.

From 87' -'90 it became all about industrial:
-Revolting Cocks
-Nitzer Ebb
-Ministry
-Pailhead
etc..
From 90 - '06
electronica took over
-Orbital
-808 State
(electro) Cabaret Voltaire
..etc
No grunge for me...

I prefer the early 80s to be honest looking back. Apart from bands like Metallica and REM. I can still listen to them.[:I]

^ hehe well in contrast to that, I was actually largely into Metallica, Anthrax, Megadeth etc at that time (mostly because I was 'stolen' by a Metal Band and made to play drums to covers of all these bands' songs). I don't actively listen to any of it any more, however it is a treat to dig it out now and then!

I _DON'T_ miss the cramps and blisters associated with the drumming style though [xx(]

That's ironic because I used to drum to Iron Maiden and Metallica! I liked all those bands but maybe a bit later on. I even had Slayer LOL Then I got into grunge and stuff.Yeah I'm weird with music.I've come full circle I blame Green Day why not?![8)]

I did the same thing... only I blame Nirvana!

Went from pop to rock to metal to grunge, then regressed completely back to the late 70's and early 80's with hints of new stuff inter-twined!

I'm even in the process of selling my TAMA accoustic kit and getting roland v-drums [:D]
