That's a cool picture, Ollie. And a cool background.
Having cut my teeth on 80s new wave fashion, I like a well-pulled-together look. One or two dominant colors, accessories that accentuate one or two of those colors, imagine graphic design in a look. I still dress funky, but for my job (teacher), I can't look too crazy. I like really unusual pieces, something that nobody else would have on. A bit of shopping in Europe whenever we travel over there, thrift stores, and open-air markets are right up my alley. People always notice my clothes/ style.
Starting in college ('86), all the way until a few years ago, I favoured the giant men's shirt with skinny Levis or leggings look. Kind of that late 80s, post new-wave look many of us had. I hung onto that look for ever! Only in the last few years have I worn more fitted, or form-fitting stuff.
I really DO miss the old 80s new wave stuff! It would just look too silly now. The big big shirts, belted or not belted with a giant belt, elf-type boots or "jazz shoes" flats just like the Duran guys, all kinds of skirts (never those poofy-type ones you see being "revived" nowadays...jeezus, did anyone actually wear those?), mostly pencil or A-Line skirts, lots and lots of accessories, brooches, earrings, and loads of pins. Fluffy, asymmetrical, mushroom-bobbed hair (ack!) or a little mohawk.
Now that I think about it, I guess I was always a bit of a fashion victim; well, more like a clotheshorse. As long as it looked unique. Like nobody else's. I need a little pizzazz! But not too much. You know, like the dreaded Cosby-sweater syndrome.[;)]
I can't think of any faux-pas. However, I never ever wore acid-wash jeans (yuk!), spandex, leg or warmers.
