I agree, for me, this song is grating, and they played it into the ground for some reason. Some tracks from that same release are much better. But the best by Escape Club is by far their first release, White Fields, much more synth/jangly guitarish-new wavish and indie sounding. Superior to anything else they ever did IMO.

<br>I know that Duran Duran's surge of appeal in the early 80's was a turn off to many who gravitate to the alternative.

However, a listen to the full albums or b-sides of their 1980-1985 output gives the band a lot more depth.

Yes, many of Duran Duran's singles enjoyed heavy rotation, even on more mainstream radio towards the mid-80's. Should you forsake their work because of this? I would argue against that.
Hey! I thought I was DD's biggest defender around here![;)] But your post is a thoughtful and good one, highway1pch. DD's success turned off many "serious" new wave fans, but underneath all that, they were a serious and multilayered band. I've said this before, but after their 1st 3 albums, I took a break from being a DD fan. I wasn't into the direction their sound took. To me, Duran was always the best at their uncategorizable early 80s sound--a combination of dance/glam/synthpop. Their 1st 3 albums, but especially their 1st 2, truly reveal earnest and fascinating musicianship. You can tell on their 1st album that they were still kind of learning their instruments! (with the exception of guitarist Andy Taylor, who was the only one who'd had any experience, lessons, and training) A unique, popping bass, percolating synth, tight drumming, layered guitar...it all added up to some terrific depth. And now, if you go back and listen to their early work--and I agree, their 80-84 B-Sides are even MORE amazing--you may hear something different, something richer and better than you remember. That certainly has happened to me. I love their music even more now ( still not into their 90s output, though).
But that's ok, wendy m--don't worry about it. There's room for all kinds of tastes and fans here.[:)]

Since people love to relentlessly bash this song and loathe it's every existence. I'll finally come out of closet, jump on the bandwagon. And admit, Yeah. Taco's putting on the ritz was a pretty damn bad song.

I'm sure there are plenty of pathetic fillers that were never released as singles from the worst bands and one-hit wonders of the 80's that would be considered a lot worse than any of the mentioned songs so far.

There's a difference between worst song or worst single.

I've got a few 'worst songs'

REFLEX-"The Politics Of Dancing"

KAJAGOOGOO-"Too Shy"

(and KAJAGOOGOO get my vote for worst song TITLE, too! "Ooo To Be Aah" or however you spell it). With that being said, I actually do like the band!

Although most hate it, I LOVE 'Da Da Da' by TRIO. Still, to this day, I can't get enough of it!

The Politics are dancing and Too shy are good songs I think, they are fun and catchy. I think they are far from being the worst of the 80's IMO.

For the first time I read that whole list, and I'm wondering how old are the people who come up with this stuff. I mean come on. I wanna be a cowboy at #9 (was it even that bad). What the hell is stuff like Wall Of Voodoo's mexican radio and Prince's Kiss and Soft Cell's tainted love doin' there. And will someone tell me what's wrong with Rockwell's somebody's watching me. As someone mentioned on that list, it's a fun halloween-ish type song. And there are/were hundreds and thousands of songs much worse. I bet even I could come up with a better list than that.

In the words of Comic Book Guy. Worst List Ever.

This thread has left me in a State Of Shock. I would rather spend One Night In Bangkok with a Shiny Shiny, Chicken Outlaw than rehash the worst songs of the 80's.

Is There Something I Should Know about this Hard Habit To Break?

I Can't Go For That.
