My pick for this category is Percey Sledge's "When a Man Loves a Woman". I understand it (I think!), but a particularly obnoxious colleague didn't and spouted on and on about the glories of such great devotion and how most men wouldn't have a clue. It gave me great satisfaction to tell her - POINTEDLY - that it's not really about [i]his[/i] devotion but rather about what complete utter bitchery [i]she[/i] could wreak on the hapless and consumed bastard.

Sometimes I listen to Duran Duran and try to figure out what Simon LeBon is on about. "The Reflex is an only child who's waiting in the park". "I like my toe jam waiting for the New Moon on Monday", etc. Then my brain melts and I figure either he is a phenomenal poet, or, my university education means nothing. I do like Duran Duran despite his occasional excursion into the world of Jon Anderson "I sing what sounds right" kind of lyrical insanity.

"Warm Leatherette" is Daniel Millers (The Normal) interpretation of J.G. Ballard's 1973 book CRASH. I've never seen it (made into a James Spader film in 1996) or read the book, but it has something to do with a psycho sexual need to either witness or be in a car crash..(i think)

On the contrary. It's always great to know that music moves others the way it moves myself at times. Now every time i hear that song I think of you Blir...you! [:D][:D][:p][:p][:p][:p] Hows that for shmaltzy? Seriously though i remember what you said and it gives the song a whole new meaning whenever i hear it. Regardless of what mr. strummer meant it to mean, there is now a human emotion tagged to it.
