*REQ* Luther Vandross

Discuss hard-to-find or out-of-print New Wave and '80s Alternative, and share a few songs along the way.
NOTE: requesting songs that are entirely unrelated to the genres discussed here or easily found on CD is strongly discouraged and posts will be enforced as needed.

being one of the new guys, and interested in the 80's club material, i can't help feel like this is directed towards "us". I have already asked once if the DJ/club material is OK and was told it was, but here we are.

i get the paula abdul issue..no question there

let's look at what we see when we first join here..new wave..obscure80's...rare...mp3 trading.
1. i don't have the deepest vocabulary so can someone share your definition of obscure??
2. rare. If i can't get it at best buy it's rare. most of the 80's club material is out of print and imported. Is that rare?? Generally the only way to find this material is to a. go to a specialty shop and fear being hit on by some homo vinyl collector in his back room or b. find a DEEJAY who still has the records.

Which goes back to the topic, dj's, while yes they all have their own remixes, also have the original records and some are cool enough to share.

So yes it's 80s and yes its rare and hard to find. and by the way, a certain thread on this music is pushing 4000 hits, which has to be great for your amazon and itunes banner ads at the top here.

Have a great day
Scott

Why the hell not? Isn't that why the site is called the "NEW WAVE OUTPOST" and not the "WHATEVER THE HELL YOU WANT OUTPOST"?

Don't know is the honest answer...
I'm obviously new here and I've already seen people getting gunned down for requesting 'out of bounds' material.

I guess it's a case of stick around, live & learn or give the forum up as a bad job and look for an alternative source of 80's music [:(]

If you're looking for 80's music, there are lots of options out there. Last time I checked this was the "New Wave Outpost".

If, on the other hand you are looking for a particular genre of 80's music (New Wave) then you have found one of the best places on the web, period. Some of us would like to keep it that way.

Luther Vandross was not New Wave, sort of New Wave or anything resembling New Wave.

There, that was easy, wasn't it?

Maybe MikeP can make a page where it's Non-New wave mp3 trading. I got yelled at by 2nu i think for posting sanford and son. He actually moved the post into nnnw, but i dont think nnnw is the right venue for trading mp3's. Just my opinion.

An even better idea would be a "Stupid Lazy Ass" request forum where those who insist on making stupid, lazy ass requests (that they could find with 1 quick Google if they weren't so lazy) can go to amuse themselves.

And don't let 2NU yell at you Ben...you were just fulfilling a need.[}:)]

eight6, I agree with most things you say but do you know you get quite agressive when you're angry?

I don't know how old you are, but you'll become a grumpy old man soon if you go on like this [:p]

And don't get annoyed by this! [:)]

Again, the classic mistake...who says I'm angry...I'm just saying what I think. In fact, this is mildly amusing.

I guess my experience is that if it is NOT a hit, or fairly well-known artist, you won't find it at Best Buy. That is the last place I would ever expect to find, for the most part, anything even remotely rare. I'd hit the local shops, and some of the on-line shops such and be much much more likely to find things that Best Buy would never dream of carrying. Just my opinion.

Fair point, but 2 people requested it (wrongly I know) and I posted it to be helpful (wrongly, it seems) I didn't request the f***er in the first place so all I've done is perhaps encourage further requests of this type for which I apologise.
Being new here there is an element of learning what is and isn't acceptable posting (whether it's requests or linkage) and I'm making the effort to avoid ruffling feathers by not requesting music other users (believe) to be somehow inferior.
BTW, yes I posted the Paula Abdul request and once again I apologise for that (one of my first tentative posts) but ffs GET OVER IT.

Hey, we all make mistakes.

I never said inferior, I said not appropriate to the scope of the site.

O.K. that request was for an inferior song...and there was never anything for me to get over. Don't get it wrong, my disappointment isn't with those who ask for these songs (they are usually either newbies or hammered), it's with the site moderators who should step in to remove the requests when they are out of line with the stated essence of the board. If they won't do that, then perhaps they should redefine the point of the board to more accurately reflect all the incoming requests.

Easy, anything I'm after! [:D] [;)]

Seriously, I would define this as any band who only released one single or at best one LP, both on a label that few people recognise.

A band who was fortunate enough to get a release on a major which didn't sell and/or a band who had a CD of their material released but was done on a small label and/or released in a country in which the band were not well-known, eg Japan. Copies of their work do appear occasionally on auction sites or places like GEMM or Netsounds but come with a large premium.

Hope this helps Scott, if not let me know and I'll do my best to expand on it. [:)]

The forums charter...
"Discussions about CD-R and MP3 trading, recording vinyl to CD/MP3, and our Obscure80's archive of music.
TIP: Try to avoid requesting songs easily found on CD - this will generally be perceived as an annoyance to others on the board. Try a P2P network instead."

is enforced as about as well as US immigration policy.
