I personally like the idea of knowing that, while this is mainly a 'new wave' site, whatever new wave means to an individual, there can also be the ability to share non-new wave music, though I think the major commercial stuff should be left alone for several reasons -one being to minimize any RIAA attention. Whether sharing obscurities, OOP tracks, or tracks never before on CD, it would be nice to have a section for 'other' music for those that might want to share things, such as from other decades. When you think about it, how can we easily define a genre when it clearly has its roots way before the 80s, as with alot of music. One listen to Houston, Texas band Fever Tree from the 60s, and on some tracks, it would hard not to make the connection between Fever Tree 15 years before the coming of Echo & The Bunnymen. Just listen to Imitation Situation as an example.

I only wish to share some rarities (yes, some are clearly orderable on websites, but many people may not even know about these groups) with those that might enjoy them.

I will respect the decisions made by those responsible for the overall integrity of this site, but each user certainly impacts the integrity be it with posts or music shares. I'd like to think there can be some common ground in sharing music that is not too restrictive, yet also with the common sense to not share, or request, Billboard Top 100 songs.

And as far as being strictly New Wave (in a big tent way), it should then be defined. No more Clash talk or Dead Kennedy's (sorry Motors). No Elvis Costello or pre 80's anything.

I didn't read the "Sanford & Son" thread you're referring to, but I don't think my approach would ban serendipity . . . just keep it within the frame of this site, which, BTW, I would define more like SwampThing describves than in the manner you're assuming I would. I also think Grunch has a reasonable point about tracing influences, etc.

And I thought the whole point of "Song of the Week" was that it had to be rare, OOP, never released on CD--which would meet my criteria.

You're entitled to your opinion, of course, but IMHO if people want to chase down a bunch of files they should go to a P2P site.

Right, time to add my 2p's worth.

I'm against it. It may sound good in theory but you can guarantee somewhere down the line someone will post "something related" or something similiar" or any of that bullshit to the sub-forum and stir the shitstorm up once again. The last thing we need is attracting attention from the twats of the RIAA and BPI.

There's plenty of sites around for DJ mixes and discussions, use a search engine to find one. It's time to return this site back to New Wave and none of this Luther Vandross bollocks, for fuck's sake fancy asking for the aural shite here.

At the end of the day the responsibility of the site falls on Mike's shoulders and should any MP3 post set off the radars of the wankers of RIAA et al then another good new wave site goes the way of Torchomatic.

I feel it would be hypocritical of me to take to task those who have requested non-NW stuff as I've done it a time or two myself. I voted "no" simply because I, like others, want to avoid unwelcome attention from the Ramming Instruments up Audiophiles' Arseholes people. All I can say is when I request something I try to make sure it is not available on itunes, Amazon, and the Ideal Copy before asking. Of course the vets here have been very generous with an alternate solution to the problem. I've gratefully availed myself of it and would ask those frequent posters here to consider it too. [:)]

Ok well I voted no in the poll. Even though I'm a dj and love Dance Music I feel that putting in a forum for DJ's would change the quality of the site. Besides I came here to learn about New Wave!!!
