Shit, I should just shoot myself for not just shutting up about an argument that's not even mine! But...

Marv, is it really such a stretch to take the main gist of Spaz's ORIGINAL message to be that there COULD be a little more respect around here? Does that have no merit? Okay, so it all got WAY outta hand, points were argued badly, escalations, attacks, people had to eat crow, etc. A person does indeed gotta buck up and be prepared to take the heat if he puts it out there. Fine, let's be over and done with that point. But all that seems to me to be besides the good-intentioned original point that Spaz had.

Marv, are you as a Mod seriously saying that "If you can't take the heat..." should be a governing ethos of the NWO?! It's Spaz's opinion and everybody else's opinion thereafter as well. They should be free to express them without Mod-sanctioned mockery or excessive piling on. Note: should...IMHO...not must or I demand. Your points sound overly simplified to me, perhaps putting too much credence to the free-for-all side of argument. Nobody's hurt...nobody's demanding someone HAS to act a certain way. You're using the Straw Man argument...arguing a point that wasn't even put forth. Their opinions are as valid as yours.

And yeah, I acknowledge that many many of the opinions on the other side are perfectly valid as well. There's gotta be a balance - I probably engage in more of the free-for-all side of things with 86 and motors, but don't demand that that's how it has to be. I dislike the immediate pulling of the "whining" card I keep hearing...um, isn't THAT whining too?! It just sounds to me like more of the opinions going back toward Spaz's points are more mocking than the other way that's all. I don't think it's all deserved and a lot of the other points are unjustly burying Spaz's original ones...my opinion.

Hey Motors, I could'nt give the steam off my piss on a cold day for these complaint threads but could I get a couple of hits anyway? [:D]
Any time bro. Any time. [8D] Thanks for posting what you did. I didn't expect many folks to agree with me (at least publicly) and for a mod to do so takes some balls and hopefully the message will eventually sink in.
edit: Oh, and hey, Motors, Eight 6 and anyone else who at least has an opinion on the state of the Obscure 80's Forum: The place was policed rather lazily. And even I've been guilty of posting non NW or maybe even non rare NW material. All that's over. Just try to remember that none of us are doing the Mod thing as a full time / paid / full benefits career so we may not notice everything or respond with expedience as we do carry on with a pretty full life in the physical world. So if you could maybe please let us know via e-mail about certain links you find questionable, we'd greatly appreciate the help [;)]

And I hope everyone's noticed that the mandate of the Obscure 80's Forum has been spelled out even more straightfowardly under it's designation on the forum page. We hear you loud and clear NWO, and the problem is being addressed.

I have no problem with the enforcement of site RULES and never will. I'll refrain from posting any further Leif Garrett tracks. [;)]

Of course it has merit. I think my first reply addressed that.
Okay, so it all got WAY outta hand, points were argued badly, escalations, attacks, people had to eat crow, etc. A person does indeed gotta buck up and be prepared to take the heat if he puts it out there.
Hence my second contribution.
Fine, let's be over and done with that point. But all that seems to me to be besides the good-intentioned original point that Spaz had.
Look, I appreciate the intent of the original post but the conversation had shifted and so have I. A general call out for respect is fine by me but when it becomes a heated argument on how to argue, it gets pretty silly. You're essentially asking people to change who they are. People are who they are because of a lifetime of socialization and conditioning. Who the fuck is one person to "expect" or "ask" a behavior of someone else/ Especially here, in a globally public country club?
Marv, are you as a Mod seriously saying that "If you can't take the heat..." should be a governing ethos of the NWO?!
With all due respect, I can lay little structure outside of the Terms of Use Agreement we click on when we register at this site. And with Mike P fostering a self policed forum, I can say few words of support one way or the other on this - admit it - tiresome and redundant subject.
It's Spaz's opinion and everybody else's opinion thereafter as well. They should be free to express them without Mod-sanctioned mockery or excessive piling on.
Good! My opinion might come through also! But that's all it is and I'm not acting as a mod in this capacity. I hope you and everyone else remember that I'm a member here also. Please, everybody, have an opinion. But don't have it because you think it's "sanctioned" by me.....who the hell am I? And besides, I think opinions have been formulated long before I entered the fray.
Your points sound overly simplified to me, perhaps putting too much credence to the free-for-all side of argument.
Perhaps, but so what? That's me. Just one more opinion among others [B)] I can live with everyone else's...is it too much to think that people *should* live with mine? Because far be it from me to *demand* [:p]

I think we agree on more than we disagree on and I'm not going to belabor a point. It is what it is, dude. At the very least, all I'm doing is underscoring the way this site has been run during my time. I hope you recognize that.

Damn, you're actually counting my own post too.....maybe what I meant subconsciously was yours was the first reply I wanted to address.....anyway, really does'nt matter [;)]

Anyway, my point is that these sort of threads are unnecessary or at the very least should only matter to those who are specifically called out in them. Personally, I think personal issues should be resolved off line between people but hey, you wanna make it public? Expect comments from the peanut gallery...and yes, that includes even me [|)] Take it for what it is people: *OPINIONS* That goes for every side of every argument, debate or whatever. Life goes on.....Seriously, are these not words that help everybody? In the end, am I (as a Mod) really choosing sides?

Yeah, but hate6 is soooo mean.
Hate6...I like it, I wonder if MikeP will let me have it? I mean, it does seem to be the consensus: or is it that you're from the Caribbean mahn?

I can't speak for others, but Spaz's initial post gave me the mental image of a guy on his knees begging, instead of somebody dealing on an equal footing. I guess I just don't respond well to what I perceive to be the former.

In closing off on this topic, I apologize for calling Spaz a whiner, whether he accepts or not is up to him...all in all, I called him far less than I've called others here. Could it be all that NWO love is having an affect???

We were waiting until it got heated before we called you. Sadly, it never did.
