Just curious--what makes you decide which tunes posted here to download? I generally download anything I dont know as long as its not by an artist I know I hate, its "funk" or remixes. Some of the best tunes Ive gotten here are from bands Ive never heard of yet it seems many posts dont even get looked at because people dont know the band listed in the post. (which is why I hardly ever mention the name in the post)

For instance--Frank Chickens my friend--why were you hesitant to download the Schmutz Sisters? Just curious, thats all. And once you downloaded them...thumbs up or thumbs down? They WERE a little odde than most my posts.

It's a few reasons for me. I don't download hardly as much as I used to from here nowdays & I'm a lot more selective.
I usually look at the band name or the title of the song - if it sounds intriguing (like "The Devil Lives in My Husband,) then I'll go for it.
I look at comments.
If someone mentions the genre of the song - that will impact what I download. (If it says "power-pop, I'm all over it!)
Sometimes the year decides it for me - I tend to like 1985 & before.
There are other things - like if I'm curious about a group or they have a good buzz, then I'll check them out (Deaf School...)

Quite a few of my new favorites have come from here, and honestly many of them were not in my "pre-specified" search credentials (Experimental Products, the Glove, etc.) I wish goutroy would get back to posting those vinyl rips!

1. If it's in a funky format other than MP3 - SKIP (rather than transcode and further degrade it)
2. If it's poor quality (judging by size) - SKIP (I can likely find better on a hub)
3. If it says Extended DJ Mastah Jizzbomb Alnight Disco Mix or something similar - SKIP
4. If it's some gimicky mashup - SKIP
5. If it's from someone with a great posting record - GET
6. If it's the 10th track in a row posted by someone with a great record - SKIP (thanks but I have a short attention span and it's too much to digest with all the noise here)
7. If it's posted by someone with consistently bad tagging habits - SKIP (I can't be constantly bothered to retag even good songs)
8. If it's posted in rapidshare (as if!) - SKIP

Oh, everything else pretty much per Wolvie's comments.

Hilarious, almost word for word my criteria, although I seem to be lazier lately about single songs.

Hi Randy, the reason why I was hesitant in downloading the track was that I thought it was a cover of the Stranglers track of which I wasn't paticulary fond. Haven't got round to listening to it yet but will.

As for the rest of post:

1. I will take the trouble to convert a track if it's one I want to listen to, but otherwise I'm not interested.

2. If it's a track that's on my want list then I will get it as I don't usually have a choice in the matter.

3. Original remixes and extended versions yes, mixes by DJ Wankybeat, NO!

4. One of my main criteria for downloading is a band name that catches my eye then I will probaby get it as I've have had some nice surprises in the past.

5. Genre plays a large part - Goth stuff no, synth, yes.

6. Goutroy, come back as I want to hear the whole of the Experimental Products album!

I use my "bartender's memory," which helps me match the posting IDs to the poster's "probable music tastes." In more blunt terms, if the poster sharing the files has a habit of posting shit that makes my ears bleed, then I no longer download what they are sharing.

Not into DJ Magic Mike on the Mix. Not into Razormaid. Not into high-strung crybabies who post REALLY AWFUL songs slopped together into a big ball of gruel and throw tantrums and leave the site when nobody thanks them for being so generous to post them -- when half the people couldn't because it took a half hour to download the 100mb file on a high-speed connection.

(Yes, I'm sure I'm on a few mp3 blacklists myself.)

Whoops! Almost forgot: I'll DL stuff that I've never heard, then decide later if I want to keep it. Also, if something was originally a song that I liked, but was mixed up by DJ Jizzbomb, I'll listen to it, but I can almost guarantee that I won't like it.

All in all, I'm not too choosy.

Same as the others.

1. Only mp3s - no wma please(yes i know I went against my own word a while back)
2. No remixes. What's wrong with the originals?
3. No top 40 shite
4. If it's made after 1983
5. If I see the words "italo disco"
6. If it's something I don't have(duh)
7. If it's not live
8. If it's not an aircheck

Of course, I also will do a "save as" and properly name the file (artist - song) before it appears on my hard drive.

Then in the _misc3 folder it goes.

Intriguing. I agree with just about everything here but now I need assisstance. Dont forget I REALLY am one of those annoying dumbasses when it comes to the PC. I notice songs I post are wma.--ok this sounds stupid to you but--I DUNNO WHY. If mp3 is the preferred format, how the hell do I change it? Seriously--Im the dumb ass with the shiney balls!!
I have, in my opinion, lots of great stuff to share and I would love it if I could send it the way its preferred.
How dumb am I? Still cannot figure out the Hub.[V]
Give me instructions on how to turn wma's into mp3's and I probably STILL wont be able to do it!![:o)]

Anyway, in the meantime, I'll still throw out the occasional tunes.....

And hell..if you have not downloaded the Real Popes..do so--I LOVE that tune!!

9. If someone qualified says you must get something - GET

Randy, go into WMP, click on the little down arrow in the upper right hand corner and choose to Show Menu Bar. Go into Tools > Options > Rip Music > and under Format, select MP3. Dipshit Bill insists on leaving WMA as the default and dipshit Steve insists on leaving it as AAC when 99% o the free world thinks it should be otherwise.

Stupid question number 2.
Now that I have done this-does it chang all my pre existing files? If I post something already on my pc will it now be mp3?

Hell I'll just test it out again.
