For fans of the old WLIR, you've probably been hearing "Long Tall" Andy Geller all the time still, and not realizing it. He's now a voiceover guy for ABC/Disney, doing everything from "Desperate Housewives" and "Lost" to Disney's "Cars" promos.

Now that I know it's him, it's funny...I heard him twice in a row on ESPN the other day and in two previews when I took the kids out to the movies. As he was the DJ I worked with most there, it's great to hear that he's having a nice "post 'LIR" life!

I listened to KROQ, KIQQ off and on, and 91X when I could get it. Sometimes, like on weekend nights, I remember KUOR and KUCR would play some great stuff.

I'm with Hexicon, KYYX - the Wave and on the AM, KJET. Incredible stations! I haven't heard a station since that could compare. I did hear KROQ for a couple summers, and it rocked as well..

So THAT'S what happened! When I was out there near Memorial Day, I had a great time listening to 91X. I even got out of the English Beat concert concert at Solana Beach just in time to hear "MIrror in the Bathroom". They were counting down their 91 greatest bands that weekend, playing 2-3 tracks per band. I caught a few like the Dead Kennedys, New Order, Pretenders...

Would listen to KROQ (106.7 FM, and used to be 1200 AM - if anyone can remember that from way back when out here in Cali!) from 1979 to about 1992/3-ish...

Enjoyed: Rodney on the ROQ was usally cool, unless he was in some mood/kick on some shit style of music or bands; however, my faves were KNAC on 105.5 FM (Rockin' Rythem... shit I can't spell right now -- 3:30 A.M., and can't sleep...) from 1982 to it's demise when it switched to Pure Rock (aka: Heavy Metal), Dick Sheppard used to DJ from Midnight to 6 a.m., and then he switched to KROQ's morning show as Richard Blade... hehe.

KLXS 88.9 FM ruled along with 91X, the border blaster from TJ, Mexico! Those were the days of punk, new wave, et al... sometimes I wish I could do it all over again... time warp travel! [;)]

I even have virgin bumber stickeras from all these radio stations in a box somewhere! I guess in another 20 years I'll be putting them on my car's rear end, or whateevr we'll be driving/riding around by then.

G, it's funny that you mention Rodney's moods/kicks. I think we all tend to remember back with rose-colored glasses. Now that you mention it, there were some weekends where he'd go off the air in the wee hours, and I'd be like "WTF, that was some weird shit." He'd definitely push the envelope, which didn't always work, but he's still a god.

And yeah, the KNAC and 91X ruled...for awhile anyway.

One bad period was his '60s kick-back/mind-warp with Sky Saxon of The Seeds, and he went on ad-nausium... and then playing loads of shitty and great garage bands! [|)]
