Saturday- THE REIVERS

Hi Guys!! I'm new here! Well, my first salvo is to share these album title track from THE REIVERS entititled "Saturday". Started with the band name ZEITGEIST back in 1985, then with some conflict they changed it to THE REIVERS. This is from circa 1987. Hope you'll like it.

Hi, DSR. Seeing that you only have 2 posts, I just felt obliged to inform you that you should be cautious in posting songs that are still commercially available. Maybe Saturday doesn't fall in this category (I'm quite a fan of the Reivers myself) but perhaps for your future posts. I just wanted to let you know before you post a certain track, without malice and with the best of intentions, then some jerk-off starts running off at the mouth saying "hey, stoopid! you can't post that, a copy of the miserable, worthless trash of an album containing that one good track is still available on e-bay. I should know, i'm the one who put it up for bid and jacked up the starting price so that I can make a gazillion dollars even though I just picked it up from a garage sale for 5 cents."

Okay, I'm exaggerating. It's the drugs again. But you get the drift, don'cha? It's really the RIAA thing and all that stuff.

Sorry if I was kinda 'praning' back there. Just releasing some pent up emotions with all the stress at work, at home and all that. And I really wanted to spare you some of the rude remarks of some people here (though I think most of them either mellowed down, have voluntarily left or got booted out of the board).

But please don't stop sharing or asking for songs you think are worth posting here as long as you can't get them easily from amazon or something (Jeez, that's easy for our western friends to say, they can easily shell out $$$ every month for CDs they barely like while we have to save for a month from our meager earnings just to buy one CD we've been eyeing for years - of course, that might just be me). Anyhoo, you can always e-mail me or the other guys/gals directly for some of your requests if alangan ka. Otherwise, feel free to do your thing here. I do! [}:)][:p][:D]

YUP!! That's stress alright. I give my patients VITAMIN E for recharge energy to cope up with stress[:D]. Although, I'm new here in NWO posting, I've been with the scene for 23 years already since I've started collecting this stuffs wayback 1983 during the heydays of Vinyls and casette tapes[8D]. I love THE REIVERS, I have both SATURDAY and END OF THE DAY albums. Cool stuffs!![:D]

YUP dar! I agree to that! It was 1989's RHYTHM AND ROCK format of 99.5rt which played it first here in Manila [8D]. And it just vanished. Memories in future tense like THE CHURCH would sing it. But I have shared it at LITEWAVE before wayback 2003. The guys loved it. [:D][:D][:D]

I remember flipping the dial back and forth between BM and RT (I wasn't into this genre during the XB days). What disappointed me about RT was the limited playlist. They would play Smithereens' Blood and Roses every hour or so. And though I loved hearing (and still do) Tanita Tikaram's Twist in My Sobriety there, I got more variety with BM. I credit NU for really introducing me to the scene but I preferred the DJs at BM.

Yup!! Twist In My Sobriety- TANITA TIKARAM was also first introduced by THE ALL NEW RHYTHM AND ROCK radio format of 99.5RT back in 1989.[;)] The format just lasted for a month maybe because of the short playlist they have back then. Some songs that made it to their format if you will remember were: Gunshy- 10,000 MANIACS, Build- HOUSEMARTINS, Flesh #1- ROBYN HITCHCOCK & THE EGYPTIANS etc.[8D] WXB102 was still the best inspiration for me. Though I also like BM and NU.[;)]

DSR, my mentor Goldwyn Morales Azul was the one who switched to that format on RT and programmed it entirely by himself. Do you have any broadcasts from RT at that time? GMA passed away a few years ago (I wrote the Pin-Up Girls' tune "Like Gold You Are" about him) and he told me he didn't keep any copies. I was already in the U.S. by 1989 so I missed it Do you know what else RT played from 89-90? Thanks!

Hi Mike S.! Yup! I have actually recorded some RT broadcast but due to its longevity I can't seem to find it anymore at home[:(] Even the XB bits that you are asking I can't also find it.[:(] I taped it on the famous BETAMAG C-90 casette tape here in Manila during the NEW WAVE era.[:D] I'm still looking and hoping it's still around here somewhere. Actually I taped the original RT fast version of VIOLENT PLAYGROUND's "NEVER THE BRIGHT LIGHTS" demo with RT DJ introducing it but it's included on those lost tapes.

Regarding the playlist of 99.5RT during their 1 1/2 month of 1989 "RHYTHM and ROCK" format I will email it to you. Yup! I still recall those songs. Actually 99.5RT was basically the first Manila Radio Station who introduced the NEW ROMANTICS back in 1981,but it was already on 1983 that I really got into this GENRE.[:D]

Thanks, DSR. Regarding RT, GMA told me some of the bands he played but he couldn't remember all because of the time that had passed. I know he introduced the Triffids to Manila radio with "Fairytale Love," and also artists such as Marshall Crenshaw, Television, the Lucy Show, the Hoodoo Gurus, and Pearl Harbour and the Explosions. Pretty amazing considering that this was a commercial radio station in 1989! And he had THAT on regular rotation!

I remember tuning into RT a lot in 1985, before I got swept away by XB. RT used to mix in Top-40 with New Wave back then. RT actually spun the Lotus Eaters' "The First Picture of You," Lloyd Cole & the Commotions' "Rattlesnakes," and Care's "Whatever Possessed You" to try and compete with XB but it was a losing battle.

In 1989, RT's Top-40 sound was failing, and GMA presented them with a "college radio" format, which was what I ended up missing because I was long gone by then!
