I discovered many of my favorite artists by taking chances based on hearsay, or what I read about them in Trouser Press. I wanted to post links to a selection of songs/artist that fall along the lines of the more obscure. This could be a great opportunity to discover someone old and exciting that you may have never been exposed to. Take a chance and download some of these treasures:
Berlin Blondes-Framework (Extended Remix)
1980
This was a New Romantic/Synthpop band that were ahead of their time. Though not that different to what was going on in the UK charts with artists like Gary Numan, Berlin Blondes barely made an impression with their sole album release. That’s sad…

pragVEC-Expert
1979
This bizarre experimental project combined some of the viciousness of Punk, but fusing it with strange electronic noises. This single was by far their closest thing to a Pop song.

Toyah-Clapham Junction
1981
Forget those terrible hit singles ‘It’s a mystery’ and ‘I want to be free’. Toyah was SOOOO much better than that. Here is an outtake from her 1981 ep ‘Four More From Toyah’. It appears on her rarites collection ‘Mayhem’

Chrisma-Gott Gott Elektron
1979
Since they’ve been discussed here recently, I wanted to include their classic single from their album ‘Hibernation’. More great electronics with a simplistic hook.

The Judy’s-Guyana Punch
1981
Crazy Texas New Wavers with a mild fixation with Gary Gilmore. A touch of an androgynous Oingo Boingo in there.

Expressos-My Yesterday
1981
I am so puzzled why this band never had a hit with any of their 4 singles, or their LP. They had a great Power Pop sound that infused bits of the 50’s and 60’s with catchy New Wave sensibilities. That album is virtually flawless.

Peter Baumann-Playland Pleasure
1981
Take an ex-member of new agey electronic band Tangerine Dream and throw him into the Synthpop movement. Here are the results. He has a definite Gary Numan sound to his voice. His album ‘Repeat Repeat’ is a Synth classic.

The Passage-Sharp Tongue
1983
The Passage were an odd combination of heavy drums, electronics and often times sexual lyrics. This is their excellent frantic final single from the 1983 album ‘Enflame’.

Artery-The Ghost of a Small Tour Boat Captain
1982
One of my favorites is finally on CD. A combination of art school pretense mixed with Gothic insanity, making a horror movie into a song. Hear the classic, original sound of Artery.

Lene Lovich-Little Rivers
2005
I had to include something from Lene’s latest album ‘Shadows and Dust’. The album is absolutely stunning. Lene sounds as good as ever, and I rank this album better than ‘Stateless’ and tied with ‘No man’s land’ as my favorite. This is a darker, moodier piece. She’s amazing.
