Mel Gibson

I like Mel Gibson. I liked passion of the Christ and I can't wait for APOCALYPTO. Imagine if Gibson made a film showing the Lebanese views of things going on now in Lebanon. HE WOULD BE CRUCIFIED! Are we forced to side with Israel on everything or else face criminal consequence???

It's too bad that most and not all Israelis can't handle criticism especially from a drunken man.

I'm sure Mel Gibson has close Jewish friends and is just pissed off at their right-wing war mongering government.

If it's the end of Mel Gibson's career than I would like to see the same thing happen to future Republican Presidential runner Mitt Romney on his remark and use of the term "TAR BABY" at a speech...OOPS!... And he was sober at the time.

Liberal "thinking" at it's worst, folks.

Stella, try listening to yourself sometime, and ask yourself this, as honestly as you can..."WHAT THE FUCK AM I SAYING?"

Of course, change can't come until people make it, but taking innocent lives in order to create that change makes you no better than the evil you fight. An example of this is Che Guevara. Half the folks I know revere him, but few of them actually look and see the number of innocent lives he took to create revolution. He personally slaughtered innocent farmers if they didn't follow him and the "revolution". The poor farmers were fucked if they followed Che and fucked if they didn't. Meanwhile, the guy becomes a silly icon to people that brush his heinous acts under the rug.

At some point, the stupid little animals known as humans have to be able to overcome the instinctive call to violence and use the brains we've developed, otherwise it is just a pointless game with no resolution.

Hutter, One man's terrorist organization is another's home team. We have and do fund terrorists except we call them freedom fighters.

Believe it or not (and I'm having a hard time believing that your warped POV can grasp this) but there are still "Good Guys" and "Bad Guys" in the world. Sure, the Israelis have their faults, but they're not fucking monsters that will do anything to poison the world with their oppresive way of life.

Looking at the big picture of Mel's statements - making racist or intolerant remarks is simply unacceptable behavior. Plain & Simple. Any child learns that lesson. When you're a celebrity, like it or not, you have a responsibility to edit yourself simply because those statements will be broadcast to the world. In addition, whether you believe it or not, celebrities also have influence over huge parts of our population. You can't make statements like this & expect to get a pass, or that those words will perpetuate those attitudes in others.

Sorry, but I feel that celebs, politicians, people in the public eye are, and should be held to a higher standard & need to realize the impact & influence that their statements may have.

If he were to say this about any racial group, I don't think there would be much argument over whether it was right or wrong.

His statements don't suprise me - he has come off like an intolerant, hateful, fundamentalist nut-job in the Tom Cruise mold, for a long time now.

Sure I can but that particular point belongs in the self-evident category, tied with "water is wet".

That was a cheap shot. Get it? Jews. Cheap. I kill me.

But seriously, Mel's incurable foot-in-mouth disease hasn't hurt his career so far. I don't see why his latest bout of aural diarrhea would lower his stock any -- at least as far as the box office is concerned.

yes, SomebodySomewhere, I too do not expect Mel's career to suffer. (well, with his level of fame and money, what's a few million going to hurt, supposing there is some fallout ?). I for one am continually amazed when clebrities do or say stupid things, but it doesn't seem to hurt their careers any. I wonder when this started happening. Go back 80 years or so...Fatty Arbuckle's career pretty much ended after his and his associate's drunken shenanigans featuring rape allegations. Recall the fallout from MacCarthy's "red hunting" back in the 50s, and how many celebrities' careers absolutely suffered as a result. Then, in the late 60s/early 70s, Jane Fonda lost LOTS of credibility and fans with her anti-war/anti-soldier views. It took her years to ever get taken seriously again, and there are still lingering sour tastes in many mouths for her.

But today ? You have something small, such as the talent-less Ashlee Simpson's lip-synching debacle on SNL, and people were all "oh, there goes her career", but it did NOT hurt her career. Of course, in serious music circles, no-one takes her seriously anyway, but my point is, her "career" was not hurt. And look at all these politically active/outspoken celebrities today...do any of their careers suffer for it ? Anti-Bush--doesn't matter. Anti-left ? Hop right in !

I think this age is so politically correct that everyone's POV is supposed to be heard and included. Everyone gets equal time. (unless their views are so hateful, weird, or inflammatory. That's a different story.) Do you know what I mean. It seems like the more controversial, the better. It kind of helps you stand out in the crowd. Mel's comments were stupid, but this will pass. Feathers will be ruffled, but not for long...something will happen next week to divert everyone's attention.

In reading my above post, I think the Ashlee Simpson example doesn't really fit in with the topic, but I meant it to illustrate how nothing seemingly seems to hurt these "celebrities" anymore.

Nice cartoon, Hezbollah uses their babies as shields while Israel protects theirs. But I also see a soldier shooting a baby, proving once again that “nobody’s right when everybody’s wrong."

(I'm keeeeeding!sarcasm to show the silly nature of racism) I remember a time when I did not have to explain myself. Damn p.c. bastards!

[br]it also shows how Jewish Hollywood is.

I think we would and should have acted against Israel long ago... If I could I would send money to Hezbollah. If they had rockets that reached into the heart of Israel things would change fast. [/quote]

Right again, Stella!

I hate the way we won the Cold War against Russia by unfairly upping the military ante until they could no longer compete, damn us! I was looking forward to decades of more dissention and threats of mutually assured distruction from the Ruskies.

I miss the days when American kids had to do "duck and cover" exercises at school in a futile attempt at surviving a nuclear blast because we were on equal footing with the Commies.

Where have all the good times gone?
