Blancmange Song

Postby ChristmasIsland » Sun Aug 06, 2006 1:20 am

Hello Everyone,

Does anyone have a copy of the original album version of 'The Day Before You Came' off of Mange Tout? There have been a few cds released with the song on it but none of them contain the album version. The album version features a long ending with tablas and a trumpet or other horn, and synth (it's really great!). If someone has it please post it! I just got a copy of the original Mange Tout on disc and when I got to this track, it was NOT the original from the album! I was really bummed[:(].

Anyway, if someone out there has it, please post it!

Hi!

I'm not a Blancmange expert and don't have much of their stuff on vinyl or CD, but what I found out is, that the original Album version is 5:50 and thus identical to the one on the CD. The album version generally seems quite different from the single edit/remix. From your description I think you mean the 12" mix. I have a copy of it from Limewire, but there's a slightly annoying buzz in the background and it is 128K only. I can post it, but if anyone has a rip in better quality, I'd appreciate that one, too!

I'm also looking for the 12" of Waves, which seems to be quite rare.

I picked up the CD as well, and I too was very excited to finaly hear this song again, but it was quite different from what I remembered. I wonder if there were different mixes for different markets.

I believe my CD is from Germany and the LP I had was from the USA.
I'd love to find another version as well.

Google helps:

Unfortunately this doesn't tell anything about the US releases.

@ Devo:
I didn't mean that the vinyl itself is rare but the 12" version of the song. But as I can see now, there never was an extended mix or remix of Waves - right?

Try http://www.affleckonline.co.uk/blancmange/
It doesn't note any difference between the Mange Tout releases, but it has a real audio file of the 5.50 version.

Dead links everywhere.

Hi Everyone,

I remember also listening to the cassette version of the album and this song was different than any cd release version. That extended trumpet at the end is what really sticks in my mind.. it seemed to have a darker feel to it.

The version I have, on the full length lp Mangetout, doesn't seem to have the ending brass part - so my apologies if this isn't the one you're looking for, although, oddly it is a much longer track than what was released on their greatest hits compilation. There was apparently a 12" single released on vinyl that I suspect is what you want:
