Only two choices? You asked a question that has a hundred plus answers and scenarios, and only two choices to pick from?

Shit stirrer. [;)]

Eh. The poll and it's two choices were good enough for CNN so I think it's good enough for our little corner of cyberspace [:D]

No easy answer, but based on the countries of origin for the people who practise this method of forceful persuasion, I'd say yes.

I don't knwo because there are always exceptions to the rule but I guess it'll take them less time than stoppign every single person...To be honest I am extremely cynical of all these methods and am scared the terroism threat is just an excuse to control as all...[xx(][V]

Yes, it should be done. Of course. It won't protect us from the real enemy (ourselves) but it could prevent the amateurs from doing any damage.

Will it keep me safe? That's doubtful.I think that in the not so distant future, only I can (and will) keep me safe. I would never trust the government to do it, that's for sure.

I think we would be safer in the short term. I got a friend who is like 50 something with bad knees. I myself look like grandma. We went to Hawaii together with her in a wheelchair and if airlines were practicing racial profiling we would not have been checked at all. Security would look at us and wave us through but if some hairy rag heads were holding our family’s hostage that plane could be smoke in the sky.

It has to be done. Should we be so civil that we do not? The terrorists are using this as a weekness. They can still come and go. They must be watched. And when the enemy fits a description, look at all that fit that description. If we don't we are doomed to be attacked again and again.

I don't understand the context of the question. Do you mean racial profiling of arab people as potential terrorists, or do you mean racial profiling of blacks, latinos & other groups in regards to crime? Or do you mean "all of the above?"

I'm really not trying to be a pain in the ass - I just need some context here.

Wow, good question Wolvie and I guess I should have been more specific. I was speaking in the context of terrorism but now that you mention it, it really could apply to any sort of context. Racial profiling is racial profiling and it always seeks to filter out perpetrators that fit a common description. I can't see racial profiling being more effective in curbing one sort of crime better than another. So in any context.....do you think racial profiling will keep you safe?

I don't know then. I am not familiar with the variety of arab cultures (and using "arab" is probably the wrong term now.) I don't know how they've been impacted by our government & if it really has been effective. I guess if you're looking at a massive group of people from all over the world who are Muslim, and scrutinizing them more than others - I'm not so sure I like that. Do I think it's necessary? I don't know.

In regards to terrorism - I don't know how safe we are & if checking out one group over the other is effective. The Canadian border is wide open & no amount of profiling is going to stop those who sneak over.

If we're talking about local crime? As much as I don't like profiling, I think at times it is effective. If you're in a high crime area & someone looks suspicious - then it's probably valid. If you're in my neighborhood & you pull over a black kid simply because they're black - not so much.

Jeez Marv - I have to think about it. It's a tough question.

It is a tough question for sure. Racism in all it's forms is a bad thing and profiling is considered by many to be a racist. I think profiling is a great tool for narrowing down the search for a specific criminal but to use it against a whole race seems wrong and I don't think we will be any safer for it. Muslims come in all flavors and colors.

What we need is for the boneheads in Washington to devise a reasonable plan to screen passengers, cargo, ports and borders effectively rather than just focusing on the highest public impact measures like frisking grannies at airports.

<p align="justify">Look at it this way, Latino and black gangsters are a form of urban terrorist. They've probably done more damage to inner cities than our Arab population: Just look at downtown LA, Watts, Santa Ana, and Barrio Logan. Of course there should be racial profiling in regards to every crime.
