That shouldn't make a difference - stupid can occur at anytime of the day or night. I lost a close friend under similar circumstances.

[/quote]Most of the jobs I get hired for are for "environmental portraits" i.e. people in their environment... so if I shoot a close up, you don't see much of the environment. Also I'm getting hired to LIGHT the environment. It's not very tough to shoot a close up, I have plenty of those in my career, but I primarily shoot people "On Location" and the Location is one of the main reasons I am there.

Here's a few close up shots and I still managed to make them environmental portraits:

[/quote]Too blury??? WTF??? This is a 72 dpi jpeg at medium quality (save for web through Photoshop) -- the tif file I sent to the client is 100 MB (it was over 200 MB before flattening all the layers). The shot will run full page 8.5 x 11 in a magazine.

[/quote]There were no other people or cars on the freeway when I drove 130 MPH, that's why I did it when I did it, cause there were no other cars anywhere. This was in 1985 as well.

I like it, Dan. I used to want to scream when I had to design an ad or page around a photo of a group of people because I always ended up with line-them-up-and-shoot-them art. Nothing's worse than trying to design something nice and all you have to work with is a boring photo. (I know it's hard to make a group of people standing around look interesting, but still...)

My husband is an amateur photographer (I think hobbyist is the right word) and he has taken interior shots of McMansions for a contractor who was a friend of a friend. I have been along on 2 of these projects, just to help out a little.

I totally admire anyone who can take on the big pain in the tush job of shooting indoors. The strobes. The lights. The glare off the windows. The glare off the wood floor. Hot spots, awkward shadows. Trying to hide umbrellas behind architecture elements. Trying to race for the shot before the sun goes down and the natural light disappears. Trying to brace yourself on a f---ing bathtub because there is no wide angle lens in the world that will capture the whole bathroom. I found the whole experience physical draining, and I wasn't even the photographer.

So, my hats off to you, Dan. Nice work. [:)] I don't know how you photographers don't run out of patience. Maybe I just get too frustrated too easily.

... just when I drove 130 MPH there were no people on the freeway (well why would there be people on the freeway, that makes no sense) -- there were no other cars -- only my car, at 2 AM, on a totally dry clear night with a full moon.

I was only endangering myself, and since I had been driving the car daily for 3 years I felt comfortable enough to attempt this, ONLY ONE TIME. It was a RUSH or THRILL if you want to call it that, but at no time was any other human being in any danger, because there were no other human beings or cars anywhere near me, in sight before I decided to attempt the 130 MPH, nor after for at least 15-30 minutes

-- the freeway was deserted.

Funny thing is, the main guy in the front wanted me to have the 4 people in a little semi-circle in the front of the shot, and I said to him, "where were you while I was figuring out what to do, or lighting the shot?" -- he's not getting paid to art direct the shot (I was paid $1,000 including my expenses for the job). Plus he wanted to leave after a few frames were shot -- I only shot 31 frames total in just under 9 minutes -- that is working fast, and trying to get 4 people looking good... it's not easy.

[/quote]Thank you. It's the only career I wanted to do since the age of 16... I'm 43 now and consider myself lucky to have a career I love and for the most part get a lot of freedom to do what I want, how I want.
