The Strand

Anybody ever hear of these guys. I remember them opening for The Thompson Twins in Mesa, Arizona around 1988. They had a couple of great songs. One was called Black Cadillac, I think. Ring a bell to anyone?

Yes, The Strand was a very popular local band from the Tempe area and consisted of the two main musicians (Damon Doiron and Bruce Connole) from both Billy Clone & The Same as well as The Jetzons before forming the Strand. I believe The Strand broke up right around 1990 or 1991 and both Doiron and Connole have been in a million bands since and are local music legends. I don't think the Strand have any CD's but I'll keep my eye open.

I do have a couple of mp3's I got here previously (I think from eight6 but could be mistaken) from their earlier works:

A CD was released on WASP records, for The Strand - Seconds Waiting. I picked it up in the past few years.

Hey Grunch, I'm working on a website of Arizona bands, Does the cover look like the one I posted? All of the info I can find says it was self-titled. It was released in 1987.
Is Bruce Connole, Damon Doiron and Alan Ross Willey listed as the musicians? I appreciate the help! Thanks!

John Hubbell, Bill Lasley and Jim Garner listed as musicians. This is clearly 80s power pop. I guess there were two bands with the name The Strand??? This particular one is somewhat like Paul Collins Beat, and they are from the Virginia area.

This is definitely the correct cover for the Arizona band. I have it on cassette and am still looking for CD versions for Mp3. I saw these guys several times opening for Thompson Twins, OMD etc.

I am trying to find info on Billy Clone and the Same. I would like to know what happened to the other band members, beside Bruce Connole. He seems to be getting all the credit. I know that the songs were written by Mike Conde and his cousin Derral Gleason. From what I've found, Mike Conde was the front man on Rhythum guitar. He died of a herione OD at the height of thier popularity. Derral was on drums. I am looking for stories from people who saw them perform. Also looking for photos and video.

yes kat, a heroin OD led to the demise of Billy Clone & The Same. Connole and Damon Doiron went on to form The Jetzons and then later, The Strand. Doiron and Connole have been a mainstay in the Arizona music scene for years (and continue to be today.

Check back here as in the next week I will launch my site which has mp3's of Billy Clone, The Jetzons, etc. Haven't had much success with videos and photos though.
