I was never a big one for shows (more into record collecting), but in the few I did go to I did experience slam dancing. Anything from Motorhead to Mojo Nixon had a mosh pit.
Do you see slam dancing as:
(1) a bunch of morons who ruin what could be a good show for the rest of us, or
(2) an almost theraputic release, good-natured aggression, and a necessary element of the punk scene (from which much of our music came)
I'm kind of mixed about it.... I'd like to think I could go see some interesting punk band without getting a steel-toe combat boot to the head; once everyone starts pushing into each other I think "how much do I trust this group of hyped-up stangers?"
At the same time, I think "hell, kids will be kids; it's part of the deal"...
(Just to clarify, it's been the late eighties since I've actually been in a mosh pit. But I think about it every now and then....)
