awful as in poorly made awful or blood and gore awful or both?
here are a few more horror obscurities I pulled from the darker corners of my memory. I'll be surprised if anyone has seen these (Horrorgrrl?):
1. Twisted Brain - watch the "hero" use a paper-cutter to disastrous effect
2. Willard - the original big scary rat movie
3. Rawhead Rex
Not quite so obscure:
4. Duel - Spielberg's first - highly recommended
Certain late 60's - Early 70's sci-fi flicks also screwed me up when I was young and impressionable, and now seem like they could be cult candidates, although maybe they were too successful:
1. Soylent Green - Chuck Heston
2. The Omega Man - more Chuck Heston
3. Planet of the Apes (the original)
4. Silent Running - Bruce Dern!
5. THX-1138 - Lucas' first feature length film
Also, i agree with you on Eraserhead. I'd have to throw in Blue Velvet also.

Haven't seen "Twisted Brain", but I have seen all the others you've mentioned. The original "Willard" was good, but I thought the remake with Crispin Glover in the titular role was better - and I'm not usually a fan of remakes. I just found Willard to be a more sympathetic character in the remake, and one I could relate to more. "Rawhead Rex" is actually a terrible film based on an exceptionally good Clive Barker short story (of the same name) from his Books Of Blood series. Read the story and you'll see what I mean. Rock!

Okay, I saw the Cook, the theif, his wife and her lover. Disturbing is definately the right word. However, it had some great lines.
One of my all time cheesy horror movie faves was Phantasm 1 and 2. Can't get any better than the tall man.

One of my all time cheesy horror movie faves was Phantasm 1 and 2. Can't get any better than the tall man.

The Tall Man rocks. So does the sphere. Phantasm 1 scared the bejesus outta me when I first saw it back in the early 80's. Maybe you knew there was a 3rd and 4th installment in the series - but for the life of me I couldn't figure out what was going on in them due to all the weird dream(?) scenes. Supposedly no. 5 is on the way to wrap it all up.

I remember watching The Cook... in a Violence in Cinema class in college. The professor paused the picture during every sex scene (turns out he did that in many of his lectures). Kind of interesting going to class, talking about naked people, and getting graded for it. We did actually talk about violence in the class a lot too, and the topper was that I got to write papers about both Blue Velvet and Resevoir Dogs.
The professor ended up trying to make a move on one of my classmates. She wasn't into it.

Tough call, but I think so - at least so that you can make it to 5, in which I hope they'll wrap it the hell up, assuming Coscarelli finishes production. Three was better than 4 but neither were nearly as good as the first two. Maybe I'm dense but I had a tough time figuring out what was going on in number 4 - it seemed to have some contradictions and unanswered questions.

Has anyone seen a Japanese horror movie called Pulse? I've heard great things about it - is it as spooky & eerie as the reviews claim? I love a good ghost story - not such a fan of gore and stuff.

I haven't seen this "Pulse", but I did see a really horrible movie called the "pulse" from 1988. I am ashamed to admit that I watched it all the way through.
