Costco

Even though I'm feeding a family of five (and that includes my 6-foot-tall and growing like a weed 14-year-old), we never buy bulk. I've never been in Costco and when I did have a Sam's membership, I used it once in year. I just don't have the room to store 75 hamburger patties or 25 cans of green beans. And the mutant-sized jugs of mayo--where do people put those? I can't see cramming one of those in my frig....

The truth is that CostCo was conceived with the business owner in mind, so you can see how such a gargantuan jar of mayo, can of tuna, beans, display case of Skittles or what have you can make sense to a restaurant or deli owner, for example. Now of course you can buy multi packs of many items instead of just the massive one container. There's a pharmacy, Christmas decorations, back yard playsets and all sorts of things that attract families also.

They have a pretty decent DVD selection. I saw all the Star Trek box sets from all the different series for around $50 a season the other day. That's damned good, considering they were around $100 mark when released. Guess what Marvy's telling Mrs. Marvy what he wants for Xmas [:D]

edit: I can't believe how much we're talking about [i]groceries[/i]! What happened to those cool New Wavers we used to be?!?!? We used to go to the store to buy [i]hair product[/i]! And [i]clothes[/i]! [i]AND MUSIC!!![/i]

Speak of the devil, I just found out yesterday my latest go-nowhere job has a Costco membership. (The one I'm presently wasting company dollars pretending to work while typing this. Yeah, that one.) Being the aim-to-please sort, I volunteered to go shopping next week. You know, so I can report back my findings. IINM, the last time I was there, I was the only customer in the place who weighed less than 300 lbs. And that's the beauty of Costco. Not only can you feed yourself like you're a family of 12, but you can feel thin doing it. Because, no matter how much of a gut you got, it's nothing compared to the loathe handles on Bertha the 900lb Lardosaurus Wreck. God bless buying around bulk!

As a business owner, I gotta say...I have no use for Costco, Sam's Club, or any of those mega-warehouse food barns. I had a Sam's Club membership five years ago, and the fax machine and registers I bought there were faulty as hell, and when I brought them back...tough luck, el hutter.

Screw 'em. I'll buy my groceries and electronics from folks I know and trust. So what if it costs a lil' more. At least I'm contributing to keeping the businesses that value their customers afloat.

Hmm, in the Costcos I've been to in CA, I don't recall there being an abundence of obese people.

No problems with the Costcos up here (although it's not like a buy a lot of hardware from them). But up here, Costco have an excellent reputation for taking back merchandise, even if it was bought a year ago.

I bought our king size 12" memory foam mattress from costco.com a year ago-$749.99 (shipping incl.) and it is awesome! My parents have a queen size 8" tempur pedic that they paid $1600.00 for 10 years ago and say ours is more comfortable. If you're in the market for a new mattress, I highly recommend you try this one. Costco has a great return policy, if you don't like it, they will take it back.
