Why in the world do you choose 2 bands completely unrelated to each other in every possible way? I mean, The Cars are an American rock band who had new wave leanings and AFOS were a synthpop band with great songs and strange hairdos?

Seriously, If you

I love both bands but after seeing some live footage from the bands, I'm going to have to go with the Cars. They are much better live.

Both bands are fantastic. Although they are both New Wave, they have more differences than similarites to set a comparison. One is pure synthy and the other one is a Wave pioneer, experiencing New Wave from its roots with punk (late 70s).

Wow, tough crowd. I think the Cars were more innovative. I would definitely go with the Cars (I almost cried when Ben Orr died) but AFOS are awesome.
