Born and raised in Chicago. I loved the skyscraper war we had with NY in the 70's--very Freudian and Tower of Babel hilarity. But 9/11/01 took all of the fun out of the skyscaper war. Now Chicago feels guilty. Although I am not without Chicago pride, I would love to live in England.

A few years ago I moved back to my hometown in Northern California. It's been called "The City of Trees" and is at the confluence of two major rivers. Autumn is a great time of the year here: a window of time between 100 degree days of summer and dense fog in the winter.
People complain "there's no there there" which may be true. But Lake Tahoe, Yosemite, the Ocean, and the SF Bay Area are all just a couple of hours away.

What Ocean is this? LA is about a 6 hour drive plus 2 to navagate to Santa Monica from where you are at. Is this a 30 min trip to the Airport 30 min going through the airport teminal and a 3 hour flight to Xtapa, Mexico? One hour through customs and then bam your at the beach?

See, I've never seen a Star Wars film (cue up gasps now), but yes, you're right, YOU to me are the most famous person from Wiltshire. I was thinking more along the lines of music people. OMG, Stonehenge is in Wiltshire?? I've BEEN to Stonehenge! (But not to Strawhenge or Mudhenge. </Eddie Izzard>) So THAT'S Wiltshire! OMG, you aren't kidding about it being rural! But I also remember it as being really, really hilly. Very. Also very beautiful. So yeah, Sheffield must have been a shock to your system when you first moved there.

And yes, Tacoma is SO gorgeous. Everyone should go there. Everyone should also go to Vancouver. I remember taking a few day trips there when I was living near Tacoma and having SO much fun just gazing out, looking at the sights. And they have such great bakeries AND their burgers are made from Albertan beef, which to me is the best beef in North America. We moved to the Seatac area from the Bay Area in June 1989, which means we missed the Loma Prieta earthquake by only four months, and the Embarcadero Bridge, which we used to use a lot during the 18 months we lived in the Bay Area, was famously destroyed by said earthquake and never rebuilt. So I figure God must've wanted us there in the Seatac area for more than the one "it's really pretty there" reason.

So you been to Stonehenge? Cool! I used to live very near there in a village called Durrington, I wlaked my dog there once and the lady gave him some water while I went to look at the stones. yeha it was a culture shock and I do miss home. I'm a music person, I've been in quite a few bands! I'm a punk singer. But yeah, there aren't any famous bands form around there but PJ harvey comes from round thta part of the world and she's pretty famous! She comes from Portsmouth which is in the next county there! I can't believe you've not seen 'Star War's' that must be hard to avoid actually, I've seen all the films at the pictures when they came out which is probably unusual for somebody my age perhaps, I love sci-fi though and rela space stuff too! Yes, I will have to put Tacoma and Vancouver on my 'must-see' list when I get rich enough to travel around. LOL! Nice to chat![:D]

Ahhh, Phoenix (Scottsdale)....
5 hours to San Diego, 4.5 hours to Vegas, 3.5 hours to Rocky Point, 1 hour to the snow, 20-30 minutes to a variety of lakes, great weather year round, All the major sports (well, including the Cardinals is a stretch) and did I mention the great weather????.


I have an Ixtapa, Mexico Honeymoon/Nightmare story that is pretty hilarious and will save for another time.

I grew up in Central California (Stockton) now that place IS the armpit of the world.I moved to the Seattle area in 1987.I absolutely love it here!

I actually love the weather here,I love the big wind/rain storms that we get during the winter.

The scenery,ohhhh its so beautiful here,nothing like taking the Seattle-Bremerton ferry and seeing Mt Rainer on one side,the Olympics on another and Seattle's skyline.

I too was here during the so called Seattle music scene.Ehhh no biggie to me really,I think Seattle still has a good music scene.
