How's your real estate market?

The housing situation here sucks, too. But only for people who want to sell their homes. I went out looking on Sunday, and found a bunch of homes within my price range, but I could tell that the owners were gritting their teeth knowing that they've already had to slash their prices anywhere from $50k to $100k.

One option, Manekineko, is renting your home out. I know that you want to get rid of it, but if you rent it, you'll have that rent money as an income.

Housing still seems to be booming here. We've had around 10 houses near me sell in about 2 weeks each throughout the summer. But, hhousing tends to be pretty affordable here anyways.

We might have to rent it out if we can't find a buyer soon. But we really need to liquidate it so we can move on. Plus, we don't want to be absentee landlords living several states away. There would be no way to ensure that the tenants are keeping the house in show-ready condition while it's on the market. Bad tenants could really hurt our potential for a sale. Sure, we could hire someone to manage the property in our absence, but that would cut into any rental income we could gain.

We basically just want to sell it soon and be done with it.

Finally slowed down here. I actually remember on the Today show 2 years ago they listed the 5 cities that housing prices had skyrocketed in the most in the last 10 years. My town here-Pawtucket-was second in the country in percentage increase in housing prices, only San Diego was higher!! Pawtucket???? Most folks who are not from here never heard of us!!![:D]

But the boom has subsided. There was a house around the corner from me that some guys had bought--fixed it up beautifully and it went on the market for 439,000. 2 years ago they would have got it. They put it up about 16 months ago--a few monthe too late. Just sold for 289,000.
