The Pretenders in concert-VH1classic

VH1classic is currnetly showing a 1 1/2 hour Pretenders concert, filmed in a casino recently.
Along with some young stuff (Kings of Leon, Incubus) there are some interesting guests, namely Shirley Manson and Iggy Pop!
Shirley and Iggy do vocals on Middle of the Road.
I'll have to keep watching, although they will probably repeat this a dozen or more times in te next 3 days [:D].

They also seem to have a new series BBC Crown Jewels. another concert series. I believe this is broadcasts from the early 80s, since I caught a bit of AC/DC with Bon Scott, who I beleive died in the late 70s/early 80s. Anyway, tomorrow Saturday Oct 21, they have the Police in concert.

I am watching the Police concert now, and it is quite good.
From Feb 1979; Sting with DARK HAIR!
They play Fallout as well as tracks from the first album, plus Message In A Bottle (supposedly for the first time in public).
Highly recommended.

Going to see The Pretenders in December (Cleveland Agora).

Any word on anyone touring with them (her)? Website doesn't say if there's an opening act. I heard that there might be 2 possibilities: UB40 (which I doubt) or The Mighty Senators.

At 55 bucks a ticket, I'd like to think that someone is opening. I must be getting old....I remember seeing Modern English for 6 bucks (no opening act), Gary Numan for 15 bucks (Nash the Slash opened). Hell, I saw U2 on what I think was there first tour of the States (must have been because it was right after "Boy" was released). If I remember correctly, the tickets were less than 10 bucks (The Dream Syndicate opened).

Hey Max - I wonder if the U2 tour was actually the 1983 "War" tour? The Dream Syndicate opened for the first part of the tour, and they had recently released their first LP "The Days of Wine And Roses". "Boy" actually came out a few years prior in 1980. Anyhow, it was a great show, wasn't it?

Back to the original topic, reading this thread makes me wish they had VH1classic in my cable package...no such luck!

You're probably right....it was a long time ago and short term memory loss was the rule of the day. LOL!

Were you at the Cleveland show? It was a really good time. Bono jumped out on us. I spent most of the evening watching The Edge play his guitar....amazing. The Dream Syndicate was good too, Karl Pecoda (spelling) was cranking out some sweet stuff on his guitar.

Our cable company (Time Warner) has told us that we may not have any Viacom stations soon (MTV VH1). Some sort of contract thing.

No, I was at the Seattle show, late May 1983. You probably saw them just before me, because I understand they switched out the Dream Syndicate for The Alarm as the opener as the tour progressed from Seattle. And yeah, it was probably the best show I've ever seen!

The "U2 Live From Red Rocks" VHS was taped just a week later in Colorado...when will they ever get that one out on DVD?

Regarding the Pretenders, I had tickets for the '81 tour, but they cancelled the Seattle show due to Martin Chambers smashing his hand up the week before. Always regret not being able to catch them on that tour!
