Help me!

I have a concert on DVD and I want burn the audio to CD.

I used HandBrake and was able to pull the chapter I want onto my hard drive as a QuickTime mp4. So how do I turn that into an mp3? It must be possible--I have some songs from a Cure DVD that I got off the Hub, so someone was able to do what I'm wanting to.

I read somewhere that all I have to do is drag the mp4 into iTunes. I did that, but it plays the movie clip down in the little box where album art goes. It didn't magically turn into something I can just listen to (and burn).

I can do things in Photoshop that'll blow your mind--but I'm out of my normal territory with this ....

If it helps, I'm running Mac OS X 10.4.7.

I'm just guessing here but with the mp4 selected in iTunes have you tried "convert selection to mp3" under the "Advanced" drop down menu? I've never tried it that way but it might work. Or try dragging the file into Garageband and see if it'll import the audio that way. Once in there you can export it to iTunes as a proper sound file.

Or, you can always download Audio Hijack from Version Tracker. I use it all the time for this very thing. The freeware version allows you to grab audio from any source for up to fifteen minutes or so per session. Depending on the length of your mp4, this could be the perfect solution. If it's not long enough, you'll have to pay for the full version for unlimited time sessions. Click here for the software:

The easiest way, if you have 30 bucks laying around, is to buy Quicktime Pro from Apple. This will let you export the audio track by itself.

If you buy QT Pro, here's how to do it:

1. Open your file using the Quicktime Player
2. Go to the File menu and choose Export
3. Give the file a name and choose where you want to save it, then go the the Export pull-down and select Sound to AIFF, or Sound to LAME MP3, or Sound to WAVE, or Sound to AU.

You're done.

PS - Marvy, I was the first ever purchaser of Audio Hijack Pro. Not that it means anything, but it seemed sort of cool at the time. Rogue Amoeba make some seriously fantastic software and are great at supporting their software, so it was money well spent.

That's good to know because I think I'm about ready to splurge and pay the $16 for the full blown version [:D] I use it to extract audio from DVD or VHS sources like say, a New Order concert [}:)]
