Trick or Treat question

Is New England the only area in the USA that trick or treaters go out at NIGHT??? Its all Ive ever known, but anytime I see ANY trick or treaters on TV or in movies they rascals are out during daylight hours. Doesnt make sense to me--monsters prowl at night!!!! So do trick or treaters!!!!!

After Dark here. In fact, anywhere I've lived, Trick or treaters only go out at night. There are mcuh less than there used to be. They now go to "malls" and such.

I used to see really, really little kids out when it's still light, but mostly the kids are out after dark. We HAD to wait until dark when we went out.

Unfortunately, I don't get a single kid at my house. It really sucks, because I could use one for that Halloween bon-fire I'm building.

Here are a couple of helpful hints for Halloween:

1) If you celebrate nonexistmas, do your holiday shopping on Halloween night. The malls are deserted and you get to avoid the candy beggars. It's a win/win.

2) Put an empty box on the porch with a sign that says "I'm sorry I couldn't be home to see your wonderful costumes, but I left this box of candy bars for you anyway. Please be considerate of your fellow trick or treaters and take just one." Throw in a movie and enjoy the peace and quiet as the kids assume someone got greedy and took the whole box. I guarantee your doorbell will not ring.

I would never answer the door after dark now because there is too much risk of violence here now I was reading an article the other day about how older trick or treaters have violently attacked people. I always lock the gate and blast out music until I go out on Halloween, it's safer that way, plus I am broke in anycase so it wouldn't be much of a treat for them!I l aready have got quite a bit of my Christmas shopping but I like the empty candy box idea...

In our neighborhood, if any homeowners do not wish to participate in Halloween, just leave the porch lights off -- it works -- no doorbells ringing.

here in houston we do our trick or treatin' after dark but only like in the rich side of town (Suburs) because of the risk of crime in our own hood.

Gotta disagree with you here, Motorman. Here in the Great White North, where there can be a miserable amount of snow on the ground (not lately, but it happens) on Halloween night, the malls have tapped into this and always schedule some sale or another. We've been doing the Mall of America Halloween shindig for the past couple of years. Not bad, and you get to see a ton of good costumes. Some of them even on the kids.

The kids go during the day. They are still young and are in by 6. After dark, the older....er...."urban youths" come around. No costumes, all around 16 years old, in packs of 10 and more, and not very nice. It is tradition that after dark you take down the decorations and shut out the lights. It sucks but it beats answering the door to these...people that ruin it for everyone else. Sad but true.

Agreed. Most of the "kids" round here don't wear costumes (unless you count a hoody as a costume), and they're usually after something besides sweets, namely cash. I do the same thing every year and resolutely pretend not to be at home, to the point where I do not enter the front room at all on that fateful night.
