Back to the original topic (sorry Randy)...

I used to live in military housing (years ago), where lots of kids live in a concentrated area. Practically every military family has two or more kids. Add to that, the neighborhood was very safe, since all the families were military. This made it very attractive for civilians to bring their kids for trick-or-treating. So much so that people would drive from miles around, bringing van loads, even bus loads, of kids to mooch off our candy. The entrance to the housing area was lined with vehicles on Halloween night. Vast hordes of kids, many not even wearing costumes, would roam the neighborhood, coming to the door in groups of 30-50 at a time. Most of the time they wouldn't say, "Trick or Treat" or "thank you". They just had an attitude of entitlement. This would go on for about three hours, starting with the little kids and ending with the high schoolers. One year I went through about $75 worth of candy on these ungrateful moochers. One year I tried keeping my lights off and slipping into the house quietly after work, but the kids saw me come home and swarmed the house with their bags open, like I owed them something. I was afraid the bigger kids were going to vandalize my house after I told them I didn't have any candy. It pisses me off how people who didn't even live there would bring their kids to mooch off of us. That's just rude. And it gets expensive!

Agreed. Most of the "kids" round here don't wear costumes (unless you count a hoody as a costume), and they're usually after something besides sweets, namely cash. I do the same thing every year and resolutely pretend not to be at home, to the point where I do not enter the front room at all on that fateful night.

We adopted 2 black cats (my wife named them Kiki Bella and Tansy Roo) in the past 2 years. Another one showed up recently and my wife is feeding it as well (she named him Oscar - he's pretty skittish).

Last time that I handed out candy, it was a bunch of teenaged mothers and their babies. The kids were way too young to be out & way too young to be eating candy. I'm sure it was all for the girls anyways. The rest were teenagers in hoodies.

Honestly, I work around that crowd all day. I don't want to see them at night.

The one time I got a real kid, she was dressed as an angel, really sweet, and my dog pushed past me and grabbed her bag. I think it's best that my street doesn't participate in handing out candy.
