Resumes

I'm reading resumes for a position I'm hiring for and just came across this gem of a typo:

"Education: B.E: [misc university info], passed out in 1998."


Good to know that 1998 was such a banner year.


Anybody have any good resume blunder stories?

I worked at a staffing agency for a year and a half before the effects of 9/11 wiped out just about all of the company's business...including more than a few actual contacts in the World Trade Center [V] [V] [V] The worst thing I came across was a guy who claimed to work at a company I myself had worked at and during the same time no less. This was an outright lie and the resume was promptly placed in the trash.

I seen a couple of resumes where they type in their birth date wrong....
"So I see that you're 2 years old now, great!"

And of course the grossly false resumes are pretty hilarious!

A loss of a true entertainment opportunity there Marv...you should have had him in, let him know you were also employed there and watch him squirm as you ask a string of questions about his time there.

Very true. That was definitely a lost opportunity. The same thing happened when I worked at another company though. We had this one guy come in with his portfolio claiming to have worked for us in the past. Every single bit of work he presented was ripped off. We even had past designers come in and identify their own work. Some people are just shameless.

Not a resume, but an application:

A girl from a strip bar down the freeway from where I worked was applying for a cashier position.

The resume asked if she had worked under a different name (or whatever the wording was) and she checked the 'yes' box. THe app provided a spot for her 'other' name (meaning maiden or married name) and she wrote the name Cricket.

Yes, a stripper named Cricket.

A stripper.

Named Cricket.


I am not sre about any of you, but that is not an arousing name.

Cricket.

Naked.

I still get hives just thinking about it. And besides, she was missing a tooth or two.

Cricket is also the brandname of a disposable lighter.. Turning men on and being disposed afterwards. It makes sense.[:D]
