Why are Secret HUB posts being deleted?

Reserved for off-topic posts.

So it was everyone elses fault that you started the thread? Or the moderators fault because they aren't doing their jobs? The only time I saw anyone say anything negative since your return, was in that thread.
I never would have let my feelings be known if you didn't invite me to do so. Moderators are allowed to participate freely also.

Eight...you're dishing out more of the same. Someday you'll get over the fact that when MikeP deleted my posts at the beginning of threads, some of yours were zapped too. Your constant references are irrelevant. MikeP deleted my posts at my request. That's completely different than having a biased ModyMod delete your posts to settle a personal score.

Hutter, good to see you here again.

I do need to publicly thank Grunch for being a decent, kind human being (and the only guy in this thread with a nutsack). What a refreshing change of pace to have someone stand up for how people SHOULD be treated when they haven't done anything to you. It's sad that he's vilified for espousing the virtues of forgiveness, civility, courtesy, and other such social graces. Sad, indeed.

Kim, you chose to come back here knowing that would bring a shitload of negative attention. I say that dispassionately without judgement to it being right or wrong - it is what it is. Expecting that, I recall hearing MikeP allowed your return on a complete laissez faire basis - you were on your own, and even knowing that, for some reason you wanted all of this badly enough. In other words, your personal terms & conditions were outlined to you but now you want to change them? I don't think you have a vote anymore.

Regardless, Mods are allowed their personal opinions. They've always voiced them in the past, even lighting into eachother on occassion. They're not apart from the normal membership. I recall the role was created to help the Owner keep an eye out for objectionable posts. I have to believe the Owner is fully aware of any posts or deletions that he deems overly objectionable. Therefore, what you consider out of line must not be so to the Owner and ergo must be IN line to Outpost expectations...by de facto definition that is.

If that's the precedent set by the Owner, are the Mods to stick their necks out beyond the boundaries he's set by his own words and actions (or inaction)? This isn't on the Mods. I recall past discussions about more deliberately spelling out this place's Terms & Conditions - that's never happened. Many people you consider to be "haters" have publicly said they'll choose to live by any spelled-out rules or just choose to leave. I can't see how any amount of your flailing about is going to give you a say in this.

You missed the whole point, Marie. But that's no surprise. You've been missing the point of that thread since Day One.

But, back to the purpose of THIS thread -

Deleting posts at will, with no communication, and for personal reasons, is WRONG. That's not Kimiii telling everyone how things should be, that's an opinion that I believe we all share. If I'm wrong, that's okay, please tell me why.

Many people have lamented the fact that NWO has become a rancorous site with hostility run amok. We want NWO to be a good site again. A big part of that means having good moderators.

Be offended all you want. You can make more accusations, say more hateful things, and believe more lies that influence your actions. Or, you can take a true look at how things are done around here and make changes for the better.

I'm willing to forgive and forget. Are you?

Blir,

My complaint was, and is, that my posts were deleted by MarvyMarv for personal reasons, not legitimate NWO ones.

That's all.

No flailing here.

Says you. He says it was to protect someone else's personal information. Mike said he'd look into it. It hasn't happened since. Errors can be made. There seems to be an undertanding now. End of story...but you're apparently not done milking it.
Kimiii,

Being the newest kid on the NWO block and the newest mod, perhaps I may address your concerns with the least perception of bias--of course there is little I can do to change any pre-conceived notions you may have.

The bottom line from the mods' perspective was that information concerning the possible private venture of a NWO member was being made public--without his consent. Questions concerning this possible venture could have been addressed to the member in question using private email, but this was not done. Thus, in an attempt to avoid any risk this member may incur, it was decided by the mods to delete several posts referring to it. This was not done arbitrarily as the member in question had asked to keep this information private. To me this would be no different than if a member posted the private address and phone number of another NWO member without their consent. It would be the duty of mods to protect the private information of the latter member.

It was thought that perhaps members in the thread in question could contact Tiger privately with any questions they may have concerning this subject. Instead, the thread in question has spiraled into a list of accusations and fruitless speculation.

Nerolance, You and others have questioned the integrity or honesty of the mods here, and I feel that deserves a reply. Being a relative dolt when it comes to the internet, all I can do is speak from my own experience since I have been at NWO and a mod. I have learned that being a mod is a classic "no-win" kind of job--people are upset with you either for perceived errors of omission ("why did you allow that post..") or commission ("Why did you delete/edit that post...") and in the end someone always seems to be dissatisfied with the job you are doing. As a mod I (and I'm sure the others) try to preserve the spirit of what makes the NWO a special place. This means taking into account what I feel compromises the best parts of this board, while allowing as much free expression as possible. When posters--especially long time vets--feel uncomfortable, or at risk for posting, it is the mods job to "clear the way" just enough to keep a free exchange of ideas going on, but remove the perceived barriers the keeps others from posting.

Many would ask, then why be a mod? I accepted MikeP's gracious offer for two reasons--1-I was honored to be considered for the post (I have nothing be sincere admiration for what he has accomplished here, and that same admiration applies to many of the NW gurus here) and 2-I wanted to do my part to keep this repository for NW alive and vibrant as I could--I felt I owed MikeP and the others here that, at least.

The mods here are certainly not perfect (well, I won't speak for the others, but I am certainly not). I'm sure from a 20,000 foot view we make mistakes. But at all times the others and I do my best to keep the NWO a friendly, active site. That is always our intention and our guiding principle. If you truly believe that we became mods to garner a sense of power and impose solely our will on the membership here, all I can say is--you are wrong as you can be. As special a place as this is, the NWO is, in the end, just a message board. My "non-virtual" life is still vastly more important, and my sense of self-being and accomplishment will always stem primarily from there.

You have called the mods cowards for not contacting you. The reverse accusation could be made. I don't believe any of the mods received a communication from you or nerolance regarding the situation. To quote a cliché, communication is a two way street. If you are to take the mods to task for not informing you better--that same standard should apply to you.

In the end this is MikeP's board--should he decide to remove me from my duties, I will graciously step down and thank him for the wonderful place he has created. Until then I will help moderate this board the best I can. Succeed or fail, it will always be with an eye to keeping NWO a "good" place to be.

Should you wish to discuss this further, may I suggest you take your own advice to contact me privately? My email is easy to find. Thank you.
NuWaveRx brings up some valid points and concerns here which I would like respond to.

(1) Questions concerning this possible venture could have been addressed to the member in question using private email, but this was not done.

I sent an email on the issue to the last known address that was used for such matters (invitation to the HUB) but receivd no reply. I can provide proof of this email to anyone who cares to call this into question. I thought of contacting the host directly but knew of his wish to keep questions concerning the HUB separated from his personal email account. Not knowing what else to do I posted on here in stupid "coded" languahe asking him to email me. I even said PLEASE DO NOT RESPOND TO THIS POST. Nothing happened. Why did the former host not reply to me in an email? Surely he could have put an end to all of this. Nipped it in the bud. The reason is personal and as can be seen in his posts he has some personal ax to grind with me. I even emailed Marv asking him and only responds after a few days and only after I brought up the deletion of certain posts.

(2)Nerolance, You and others have questioned the integrity or honesty of the mods here, and I feel that deserves a reply.

In this instance the deletions were unneccessary since the HUB address emails contained no information connecting anyone to it and was in fact not working (i.e. people could not connect to it). But ok lets assume I am wrong...just have a MOD delete the private info and keep the rest intact. The subject of this thread and the fact that certain posters responded prompted a deletion based on personal reasons and not the integrity or "spirit" of the NWO. NuWave I have nothing against you but I will say that being a MOD is a lonely endeavour and the crown does weigh heavy I know but realize our frustration when we see posts deleted with no explanation.
May I suggest a common breather away from this post?
Or continue the line of conversation offline? This seems to have worked in the past amongst others.

All I can say is wow. It really is disheartening to see the boards degenerate into such immature squabbling. No way does the community deserve this. It's curious how, of the three people who's Hub related posts were removed by us mods, only one of them is internalizing the whole thing and screaming foul. But then, this would'nt be the first time that the board has become divided over such pettiness and self-centered drama. Hm. Divide and conquer. Nice. Since I'm already letting out my sorrows, I might as well lament the fact that Mike P obviously overlooked the string of emails that began Thursday night explaining the situation. I'm sure he'll begin his e-paper trail in his own inbox. But I don't think he'll make the mistake of getting caught up in anyon'es drama again. (Like he said in this thread: http://www.nwoutpost.com/forum/topic.as ... ,wondering)

Now Tiger's a regular guy like anyone else here who did us all a kind favor by providing us with a service. The last thing he needs is any negative attention which is why he did what he did with the Hub. Complying with his wishes to keep any ties he ever had to it as non-existent as possible is the least we could do. I mean shit, who wants to see the guy in any legal trouble? And hey people, all your other posts are still around - spoofed IPs and all. So implying that the "secret police" are "out to get you" does'nt hold much water.

The next issue won't give me much pleasure to address but I might as well bring it up. In the User Agreement you'll find the following:

We are authorized by you to remove or modify any data submitted by you to these forums for any reason we feel constitutes a violation of our policies, whether stated, implied or not.

Honestly, this is pretty fundamental forum basics anywhere on the internet. Saying that anyone here runs or ran a Hub falls well within the realm of personal information. I hate to pull this but most people do understand it. Thankfully, most people stay away from these kind of threads. And then there are those who just seem to stay away from NWO because of these threads. Personally, I'd like to see more people adopt a policy of ignoring these sort of divisive threads and posts for the shit-stirring that they are. Nero, you should know better [:(!]

Now before I dismount my high horse, let me just point out that everyone who has file-sharing software can easily log on to the what, hundreds of thousands of Hubs that are out there? Find a Hub, log on, chat, share, do whatever. This Tiger thing is way dead at this point.

You on the guestlist?

An open post to MARV

We have come to know each other as well as can be expected having never met....although I do keep threatening to come out to LI and whisk away my dear Malibue Sue from your arms. I digress...the fact that I have come to like and respect you only makes this more hurtfull. According to you:

Personally, I'd like to see more people adopt a policy of ignoring these sort of divisive threads and posts for the shit-stirring that they are. Nero, you should know better [:(!]

What should I know better to do? I emailed you and the former HUB host directly and only received a reply from you after posting the second "deletion" thread. The private communication thing I hope works both ways. I asked a relevant question which apparently many on here felt needed to be answered. My inbox was littered with NWOers complaining about the current and past deletions. So I am stirring the shit? Apparently the shit was festering waitng for the smallest thing to stir it up.

As for the "secret police" thing I can admit to accept some blame for that...perhaps in hindsight that term could be considered divisive. Having just watched V is for Vendetta (great movie by the way) and being very frustrated with the whole affair I used it. I am not apologizing for the reasons just for the term itself. I felt hurt when (1) no one answered my emails; (2) being accused in emails of somehow breaking old HUB rules; and (3) not being invited back into the new HUb fold and not being told about it. You mods have very broad powers and " are authorized to remove or modify any data submitted to these forums for any reason you feel constitutes a violation of our policies, whether stated, implied or not". Wow pretty broad but hey we agreed to all that shit right? Thing is we didn't agree not to disagree with those implied powers...if the crown weighs heavy maybe its time to join the people again. By saying this I am not campaigning for your or any mods removal. All I am saying is that you and others need to take constructive criticism and where possible prvent these posts from getting out of hand by responding to your emails. The silence on your part(s) provoked the notion that something else was happening...the protection from the broader community of information...if that information was private then surely this post of yours should have been sent immediately and not a day later. Heck I would have deleted the post myself...as I have done in the past based on your counsel.

As you very well know I was not part of the Kimiiii situation and the subsequent ANDY period that forever changed the NWO. Heck to this day I don't know the whole story (and I don't want to) and therefore I have no side to take in any of it but if (note I said IF) that situation is leading to decisions of MODs that may have been players in that to selectively implement their powers then I do get angry. Clarifications and guidance from you guys earlier in process would have prevented this. This time Woody did go straight to the police but this all still happened.

Marv I am angry and disappointed in your response (time and text) but I don't harbor any negative personal feelings about you or any of the MODs. In addition I only ever had the highest regard and respect for the former HUB host and always told him so in the HUB and here. It would have been nice to get that respect back in an email telling me what was going on. I would have deleted the posts myself if you had asked in order to prevent this.

I hope we can move beyond this and continue our Brandy and Rum laced conversations online.

No, I didn't miss the point at all. In typical Kimiiii fashion this topic has become about you and your feeling for the mods because people did not welcome you back with open arms. You and your past actions are the reason for the things that were said about you. YOUR thread was the reason things were said about you. No one had said a cruel thing about you before you opened that door.

You are the one writing your little digs about me and "ModyMod".

You are the one who changed the topic to, "Time to reevaluate the Mod Squad and see who is using their deletion powers in a personal way on NWO" and "Thanks for responding to this thread, Mike. It's nice to know that you think it's wrong too"
Where did Mike say anything was wrong? He said he was looking into it.

This has nothing to do with forgiving and forgetting. Things are what they are. You are who you are. This is a internet music forum. I do not want air what is behind my feelings because I don't want to embarrass you or the others that involved. Again, this is a music forum.

Mike, I am sorry that this thread has evolved to this. I know how you hate this type of interaction on the outpost. And I apologize that I am part of it.

If you truly just want an answer to the question at hand, no one was personally deleting your posts because you were the poster. It had to do with what was said regarding Tiger and the hub. That is it. There is nothing more too it.

Lastly, I think Blir made some excellent points in his posts.

Thanks for this, Kim. With every post, you do more harm to yourself than your legions of detractors could ever hope to. If the e-mails I've gotten since the start of this thread are any indication, it's becoming abundantly clear to the newer members exactly why you're so hated here. Talk about nerve. A person who is overwhelmingly not wanted here trying to tell the folks in charge how to run the place. LOL. I used to give you credit for having at least the tiniest little bit of brains. Now, I can see that I over-estimated you.

I love the line about how only Grunch has a nutsack. Considering some of your ummm ...... escapades, we all know that you of all people know better.

Marv and I have cleared the air offline...I suggest everyone else do the same. Everyone would benefit from better and more direct communication. Sometimes it happens in the open here on the NWO but just like any family we sometimes air our dirty laundry in public and just like any family we need to forgive, forget and move on. I am sure something will come up again. and that it will be dealt with...I hope in a better way...but lets not forget we what we all have in common.

Personaly I don't want to ever hear anything more about kimiiii or Andy or tshirts etc...by saying this I don't mean I don't want them here just that enough is enough. By bringing them into every little post on here clouds the issue at hand...hence this thread and many others becomes infected by it. My intention was to questions deletions regarding the HUB not to stir up old shit.

Here we go again. Kim's return has indeed brought a shitload of negative attention. WHY? - coz you people just won't leave her alone. Why can't YOU ALL just give her a break and try to mind your own fucking business. POST WHATEVER YOU WANT AND LET HER POST WHATEVER SHE WANTS. WHY IS THAT SO HARD TO DO??? Can somebody please tell me why!?? What has she done to all of you??? Were the old posts which had been deleted mean that much to you to solicit this endless bitching???.. I had my own share of posts which were deleted but I don't care... and why should I? I can always start a new thread if I want. Can't you?

Jeez, you people must be so damn perfect that you haven't made any mistakes in the past, huh?[xx(]

Oh, and I am one of those who noticed that the "ModyMod" had been making biased 'Mod interventions' around here. Of course, someone will try to tell me I'm wrong. Well, try to convince me if you want. You can't.

Lastly, the new hub is clearly not for everyone. Why would you want to go to a place where you're not welcome? Soulseek is always an option.

Now, why can't we all just go back to having good fun and decent interaction on this board!!!??? Enough with all this animosity, damn it!!![:(!]
