5 Beatles albums and none by Sonic Youth [:(!][xx(]. What a joke of a list. Of course, that's probably to be expected. Reading Time for its music criticism is the same as reading Spin for its politics.

And I'm pretty sure, with the exception of Radiohead, every artist listed under the releases from the 2000's is DEAD[xx(] (or should be soon). Where's Tupac????

NWA's Straight outa Compton made it???? [V][:(!]
That has to be one of the most vile albums i've ever heard and one of the main reasons I hate all rap in general. Easy muthu fuckin E...Indeed!!! [:(!][:(!]

Although there is sort of a disclaimer at the begining, kind of.

As an unappointed defender of The Beatles (heh heh) even I think 5 albums is WAY TOO MUCH! That's practically half their catalog. Definitely "Rubber Soul" and "Revolver" but you've got zillions of other 60's albums to choose from. Um...hello?..."Forever Changes" by Love? The Doors first album?

But look at the hugeness of the 60's and 70's list in comparison with the other decades.

I've a feeling this list was made up a bunch of baby-boomer schmucks FOR baby-boomer schmucks to read and feel vindicated that their generation was the "last generation that really mattered and...blah blah blah". Notice how the 50's, 80's and the 90's were given short shrift (and the list of albums from the 90's proves they don't know what the hell they're talking about...Garth Brooks? Yeah...right!). It's all about the 60's and 70's for these guys and always will be until they hit the cemetary.

And Motors..ol'buddy...ol'pal...

I'm not surprised that Sonic Youth did'nt make the list. They were never meant to sell masses of records and win popularity contests hence the geniuses at Time probably have never heard of them (although you'd think that maybe "Daydream Nation" might've squeaked in there given it's classic status nowadays). Then again, if somebody compiles a top 100 list of the greatest albums of all time and includes the lamebrained cheesefest that is "Ropin' The Wind" over "Daydream Nation" or ANYTHING by The Pixies...well...they're intellectually bankrupt.

Thankfully Time magazine is irrelevant.

Pardon my ign'ance but I had to know who the f**k "DJ Shadow" was so I sampled his top 5 songs and practically fell asleep while doing so...

And "Like A Prayer" is not even Madonna's best album. I'd take "Ray Of Light" or her debut album over that anytime. Of course the free thinking leftists over at Time all get woodies over "Like A Prayer" because of Madonna's controversial use of the cross and interracial overtones in the video.

But like someone inferred, Time is culturally irrelevant anyway...

Speaking as a diehard Elvis Presley fan, I'm not surpised he was left off the list. Unless you count greatest hits compilations, his individual albums (mostly movie soundtracks or live albums from his Vegas jumpsuit days)don't stand out. Now if they put out a list of the 100 greatest compilation cd's, Elvis would definitely be on top or near the top of the list.

BTW: You weren't refering to Elvis Costello, were you? If so, nevermind.

No, I was indeed referring to Presley. Although I sort of like Costello, I wouldn't have placed him on the list.

I suppose you are right about Presley though - his singles during the fifties were far more influential than any album released. I do see however that they listed a Sam Cooke compilation; which I would probably agree with. Still odd that Presley isn't included. Unless, there has never really been a very strong Presley compilation released.

I prefer making my own compilations, but as far as commercial ones go, this one and it's follow-up are pretty solid comps.
