It doesn't even have the benefit of being funny. Just dumb. Way to go, Kramer.

Poor choice of words, to be sure. But I haven't heard anyone ragging on the guys who disrupted his show...

The black man was just being enthusiastic, that's all. How is he going to make it in this business if he can't take it?

Guess this is payback for when Kramer's girlfriend, Toby, was heckling Jerry. You know what Richards should have said? "Shut your traps or I'm going to cut off your pinky toes! I'm trying to do a set here! And if I have to tell you again, we're gonna take it outside and I'm gonna show you what it's like! You understand me? Now, shut your mouths or I'll shut 'em for ya! And if you think I'm kidding, just try me! Try me! Because I would LOVE IT!" Maybe he could even go down to where the [offensive word] works and heckle him!

Unfortunate as I've always liked him. Havent heard the tape and don't want to. I've been to many comedy club and have seen many a comedian lose it on stage due to idiot hecklers. I never heard the N word used but plenty of others.

HEY!!!! Maybe his buddy Jerry will bring back Sienfeld to save his career!!! Now that would be cool. Or if there is a civil suit he can hire his old buddy Jackie Chiles.

"That's totally inappropriate. It's lewd, vesivius, salacious, outrageous!" [:p]

Michael Richards should be ashamed!

Everybody knows it's the Jews that are the real problem.

Love,

Mel Gibson

While some PC stuff that's discussed may at times seem nonsensical, the one common thread of Richards and Gibson is this area where if you're angry, it justifies calling the person you're angry at racist/bigoted, etc. The fuller context is that to respond to someone you do not even know well in anger is to dehumanize them (and the "N" word is a classic word with regards to dehumanizing). That's why as far as I'm concerned Richards and Gibson are not excusable for me--regardless of anger or intoxication.

Richards' apology in a way is worse as he was trying to be PC by identifying all of his audience members, but even that approach has a more neutral method of dehumanizing. That's why it fell flat.

It doesn't excuse it but i don't feel it neccessarily makes him a racist. Anger is a beast. when people let anger get the best of them they hit, spit, even kill. Others let the words fly. All of these actions are an attempt to hurt the person thats angered them. So, unless Mr. Richards has a past of racist actions, i'm going to write it of as he blew a fuse and chose the wrong words to attack those that attacked him.

what if it was Chapelle up there and a couple of white guys were heckling him? What if Chepelle went off on them? Would we all have our panties in a bunch??? Probably not.

He made a mistake, get over it and move on. So tired of PC in society.

Although I'm one of the people against this politically correct affirmative action society, I think Richards blew it big time.

A few years back I read an article in the LA Times where they interviewed several stand-up comics and asked them about their very first stand-up gig and how it went. One young (white) comic recalled a story about how his first performance was before a largely black audience. His whole routine was one of these "self-deprecating geek" routines with lots of pop culture references, but unfortunately, the crowd couldn't relate to anything he said. He told joke after joke, and he was getting absolutely nothing. It was all dead in the water. Finally, out of desperation, he said something to the effect of "You know, I really didn't expect such a black audience. The lighting's so bad and it's so dark in here that it's like y'all are invisible. Why don't you guys make some noise so I can tell if people are actually here." (This isn't the exact quote, but it's been awhile since I read the article). To his surprise, the audience laughed at his joke and they warmed up to him the rest of the night.

Richards' case was much different. Just because there are a few hecklers insisting that "you're not funny" doesn't make denigrating a whole group of people and bringing up the suffering of their ancestors a justifiable response.

Big difference.
