Busiest Shopping Day of the Year

Postby MARV » Thu Nov 23, 2006 10:57 pm

Well, here we are: the day after Thanksgiving, the busiest shopping day of the year. I'm not even leaving the house today. Too much vehicular traffic and most likely of the weekend variety. You know, the real sucky drivers. I already decided to do all my Christmas shopping online this year. Hey, it's the twenty-first century, right?

Rude mindless people walking the mall with no regard to others, shoving shopping carts into you with no apologies... hey wait a minute isn't that the story line for "Dawn of the Dead"? yeah much safer at home unless you want an arm to be eaten.

Mr. Hex and I never leave the house on the day after T, not even to go to the grocery store.

We have another tradition, which we'll be starting in about an hour: crank up the fire and watch all three of the Lord of the Rings movies in a row, with breaks for leftovers.

I do 90% of my shopping on-line throughout the year (my version of internet porn [:p]) but this time of year I won't go near a mall! I even stocked up on toiletries, cleaning supplies, etc., so I won't have to hit Target until after the new year.

P.S. This is probably for the Costco thread, but as I predicted, we caved and rejoined. Can't even bear to think what that place will be like today.

Who are these people that go to the stores at three or six in the morning or whenever these retailers open up for the mobs? Just how good could the sales be[?] I'm just baffled [|)]

actually, the 5AM sales are pretty damn good... at least at B@st Buy… but unless you're getting expensive equipment, it's still not worth the long lines.

Today I picked up some ice wine for co-workers at the liquor store. I've discovered something: pick up wine for gifts the day AFTER thanksgiving! The liquor stores are practically empty!!!

Stop, Marv. Don't do it. Don't even try. It's never worth it to understand the herd. Understanding is the gateway to acceptance and acceptance leads to participation. Step away from the edge, Marv. Please? [:D]

I've done it before. The deals aren't really that great, I really hate shopping, but I went for the excitement of it. It was kind of fun standing in line at 4:30 AM, out in the 20 degree weather waiting for Sears to open, just to get my $10 gift card & see all the panic.

I haven't done it since, but my partner does it every year. I was out driving around this morning & went to the Christmas Tree Shop. I was wicked suprised at how dead it was. As for the Mall - no way. I spent a few years working every Black Friday at the big mall here & you couldn't pay me enough to go back!

*bangs hand against chest and drools*

I'm borderline retarded, then. I've been shopping since early this morning and just came home to put on some jeans and empty the trunk. And now, I'm going out to do it some more! [:D]

Whenever I see on the news the crowds of people waiting in line for hours to be let in at 5 AM, I cringe. Are the deals really that good ? Don't the sales last all season ? Why does the media create this must-have-it-NOW mentality ? It's sick.

Every year, I tell myself that I will do my shopping throughout the year, instead of at the last minute like I do every year. It never happens. Part of it, of course, is that I am a normal working adult who simply does not have the time to shop early. I usually wander around in the week or two before, scouring and browsing. It's not really that much more stressful. I can't stand the mall or big-box stores at this time of year, so the smaller, funky eclectic shops in University areas get my cash.

Maybe it's just me, or the places I shop, but for the past two years - I've found that if I don't buy it when I see it, I'll never find it again. I don't know if stores are keeping less stock, or not replensihing it, but I hate it. Maybe it's because I don't buy the big popular items though...
