Hahaha! Mr. BMG *used* to be like this, too, only he'd take it a step further and, being the helpful guy he is, he'd remove the offending string, stray hair, etc.
Until: One night, when he still worked in retail management, he and one of his co-managers got into an enormous fight--screaming, yelling, the works. Later, they ended up in the backroom with a bunch of other people and he had to make nice. He said he saw a long blonde hair on her shoulder and he reached over to pull it off. But it was attached to her face! He said the room fell silent while he stood there, absolutely horrified, with this super-long hair in his hand.
Anyway, he doesn't ever try to be helpful like that anymore, but if we're in line somewhere, I can practically see him itching to pull stray items off people.
