Almacantar - some viewpoints

funny Salsynth (is it ok if I use your fake name?), but there you go again, unless I have somehow misread your response, it seems to me that you are quite clear in your inference that eight6 is gay, lonely and unhappy. Very Nice! Seems to me you forgot to bash his race or religion as well. I know, I know, I should "mind my own business" in this public post but I do believe I know wrong when I see it and how you decided to start inferring someone is gay (as if there was something wrong with that) is about as immature as it gets and has no place here. Not that eight6 needs to be defended in any way, but what exactly have you contributed in your short time here other than to cause trouble? Salsynth, remember this quote " no harm, no rude comments. All I said is that he reminded me of someone I once knew. The man happend to be gay. It is my opinion and I stated it. I don't know Eight Six and I don't care if he is gay or not. That is his business. His comments and behavior on the posts reminded me of someone I used to know. That's all. You are trying to start something that is not there.
So you stated your opinion and that is fine. I disagree with you. As far as causing trouble, I disagree with you again. It seems to me that you are the one starting trouble. I'm sure eight six can handle himself and is loving all the attention he is getting.

Like Coop, there are many here who see you for what you are Salsynth. You're nothing here but a passing target, and will never be more than that. Try contributing some decent music, that will help separate you from the legions of losers, leeches and other NWO jokers you're lumped in with now. Maybe a few titles from your extensive collection of Almacantar releases?

Well said. Just like I expected. Maybe we see you lumped in the groups you described. If you knew me, you would know that I have a very large legitimate cd collection. Those who know me also understand that I love music and know a lot about alot of things. I initially came to this site to learn more about music that I don't know. I have learned some good things here. I have also seen how people like you and friends of yours try using negative comments to communicate when people have different opinions. Target? Face facts: Almacantar doesn't state mastering details for it's releases online for one reason only: vinyl remasters are often times a big disappointment, and would no doubt discourage sales. Their business model seems to be simple: "sell, sell, sell". Good luck to them.

I've repeatedly stated that they should make these details available as a matter of honesty, as should other labels. Not too difficult a concept to understand.

As for all the comments regarding vinyl remastering, I'm not disagreeing with those of you who would like to know "up front" if the source was vinyl -- that would be appreciated, but I was simply stating the reality of labels and the industry in general -- they just don't do that sort of thing, particularly when it might impact sales. Now an indie label like Almacantar could choose to be more open about these sorts of things and generate a closer rapport with its customer base.

I know in the case of The Expression, the band supplied the "mastered" material which puts the label in an awkward position if it's not up to snuff. Spaz helped out in further cleaning up the material, much of which turned out to be from vinyl unfortunately. They released these same CD's on bandmember Stephen Manassah's own record label in Australia. Anyway, this was all discussed in more detail in the older Expression thread and Rubellan stated valid good points there about how vinyl mastering is a whole different animal which sound engineers aren't necessarily experienced with.

There's a lot of talented people on this board dedicated to the cause and all I ask is that let's try to lend a hand and make future projects a success. I'm currently communicating with Dean and I'd like to run some ideas past him including the possibility of allowing us to hear samples prior to release -- something exclusive to the board. Other ideas are welcome.

I wouldn't call it squabbling but agreed, enough; my point was made a while ago. If Dean wants to establish his label as one worthy of repeat business, maybe he should go beyond what some of the others are doing. 10% customer dissatisfaction is much louder than 90% customer satisfaction.

Properly advising people about the releases ensures nobody will be disappointed by their purchase, and I'm sure the honesty will benefit his efforts in the long run.
