Midnight Oil vs. Hunters and Collectors

Postby n/a5 » Wed Dec 15, 2004 5:33 am

I say Hunters and Collectors. Sometime the songs can be too political. Hunters had a more far reaching and diverse sound. At ease rocking or doing a sensitive ballad.

I like Oil...don't get me wrong. That anger and intensity is amazing and the messages are powerful but they didn't mature like H&C.

Midnight Oil, definitely. Although I admit that I haven't heard a lot of H & C's music what little I have heard is okay, but I found the Oils' music simply more catchy, i.e., more melodic.

I'm leaning toward Midnight Oil; they definately received more air time. However, I got a little tired of the political underpinnings that were always present with their music. Give me fluff or give me death[;)].

Bottom line: Hunters and Collectors

Midnight Oil. Diesel and Dust is a great piece of work.

Midnight Oil has done too many great songs to list here over the course of their career, although all their albums but Diesel and Dust are pretty uneven.

I think I heard a H&C song once and kind of liked it, but I can't remember what it was.

H&C are a bit obscure in this hemisphere...I can see that now. I am not up on the hub yet or else I would share in the great (to me at least) music that came from H & C.

Sadly in the end they imploded in on themselves.

Ask any Australian what thei

I have some Hunters and Collectors stuff but I would have to go with Midnight Oil overall if it were just between these two. I would take Hoodoo Gurus over both of them. And what about Blue In Heaven? Weren't they Australian? Whatever happened to them?

Think I'd go with H & C. Both great bands though.

I believe Blue in Heaven were from Ireland.

Cheers!

Midnight Oil!!! I do have "Diesel & Dust" and also "Earth & Sun & Moon" (which I personally find equally superb!)[^] Even my non-NW pals love "Beds are Burning" to the core...

I've heard some HC songs before but heck, I couldn't even remember the song

I think Midnight Oil have to win this one, with a stronger suite of classic songs, however H+C had some great ones as well. I love the raw energy of both of them in songs like "Read About It" and "Talking to a Stranger".

Considering that from 10th grade through my first year in college I was an insane-crazed Midnight Oil fan I'm gonna have to go with The Oils for this one. This band, literally, changed my life. And I really was that crazy fan who had to have EVERY release

Midnight Oil, easily. Plus you get the bonus of a cueball-headed 7 foot tall lead singer. How can you go wrong with that?[8D]
