I cringe when people misuse "less" and "fewer", as in "Hey! I got less presents than you got!" It's fewer, birdbrain.

Hmmmm...I've never thought about the difference between Less & fewer! I'll have to check myself before I wreckedy-eck myself![;)]

One troubling thing I hear constantly is "Flustrated." Sorry, you're either "flustered," or "frustrated," you can even be both, but it doesn't make one word!

I also HATE the incorrect use of "don't," as in "He don't know." I hear it a lot around here.

For some reason I never got the correct spelling on that; and I was always a spelling Bee kind of kid (except, I guess, when it came to "definitely", heh). For every correct spelling of [i]necessary, occasional, congratulations,[/i] etc., I have flubbed that one ! Only recently have I been alerted.

[i]Fewer vs. less[/i]--Argh! I had recently gone over that difference with my Seniors, along with [i] accept/ except, loose/ lose, altogether/ all together[/i], etc. Yes, the exciting life of an English teacher....isn't it ?[;)]

[i]Most[/i] of us here have shortcomings kyyx...not to worry. Me, I'm lazy on the your/you're thing; only in the past couple of years though. I chalk it up to the quality of online company I keep. At least I'm not mixing in the odd yore...yet.

"Occasional" is my screw-up word. I always put two S's in it. And a certain variation of "argue" has me running to dictionary.com. Arguement? Argument?

And lay and lie. I just try to avoid those two because I never get them right. Lay down? Lie down?

I think for "definitely," lots of people spell it with an A because most people say it with an A sound (defin-A-tly), particularly people in the south/southwest. I do, anyway [:I]
