Yes, antibiotic overuse is a big problem and can have major implications. I remember years ago when TB had a "mini-resurgence" and there was some press about it. There was concern that part of its flareup (so to speak) was due to people taking antibiotics, having the TB symptoms seemingly improve in a couple days, and then these people would stop taking them...thereby giving rise to antibiotic-resistant strains of TB.
And isn't the persistent hospital staph problem related to antibiotic overuse as well ? Or no?

LOL. Its not strep. But with the glands, I'm taking anti biotics. He gave me z pack. The 5 day, azithromycin pills. Wish me luck.

If you've ever seen the movie "My Big Fat Greek Wedding," you saw how the dad was about Windex. My dad was that way about Listerine. It was a miracle cure-all and as kids we were ordered to gargle with it at the first sign of a cold. We called it German penicilliin. Despite, or perhaps because, of this treatment it's very unusual for me to get a a cold, just the occasional sore throat.

Warm salt water gargle, lots of ibuprofen, and tea with honey.
Oh yeah, and rootbeer floats with chocolate ice cream.
At certain times of year in my office we are basically not allowed to call in sick except for hospitalizations. In one such crunch I had a bad viral sore throat (totally red and raw, with the golfball sized lymph nodes under the jaw) and I was constantly sending the clerk out for rootbeer floats.
Do you guys (or really the girls) remember what life was like before ibuprofen was available over the counter? Tylenol and aspirin could never knock out those aches and pains, and especially the cramps. Ibuprofen is the best.

Although I'm not much of a painpill taker, I like having some Tylenol around for stubborn headaches.
But hex--you're right ! I recently discovered ibuprofen for those cramps (which I recently started getting ) and they WORK! Like it's nobody's business. Thank goodness for those.

I took the first dose of antibiotics hours ago and I actually feel a difference already.

I'm not a doctor, although I play one on the internet.....but this was my Grandmother's cure-all, honey and a shot of bourbon. It always seemed to work. Of course I was six and I would wake up 5 days later....

I second that. You know what else apple cider vinegar is good for? Hearburn. Drink a couple of teaspoons worth (yeah, it's nasty, but anyhoo) and heartburn will be a thing of the past. Hell, it worked for me.

I second that. You know what else apple cider vinegar is good for? Hearburn. Drink a couple of teaspoons worth (yeah, it's nasty, but anyhoo) and heartburn will be a thing of the past. Hell, it worked for me.
