I'm going to buy one but i'm not sure which one. concidering Alesis QS6.1 or Roland MKS-80.Any ideas?

What do you want to use it for? How much can you afford? New or used?

I started with a Casio CZ101 and a Korg Poly800. Both can still be found for around $100-$150.

A midi controller and some free soft synths may be the way to go.

I wanted a production type synth but the MKS-80 seems a bit pricey($500-1000).i'm actually gunning for something used, $500 at least.(I actually like them used and worn-it, gives the real 80s vintage feel[:)])

Have a look on EBAY for a good deal, Make sure you get a midi or youll kick yourself later. If you want REAL ballsy mono synth sounds you cant go past the EMS-aks as used by ENO or a minimoog , I own them and they are soooooooooooooo FAT.

Get a Jupiter 6. Heh, well actually those machines are too pricy.
But they got nice MIDI control (J8's require an expensive retrofit..but are even fatter than the J6s).

You can do some cool stuff on a Korg Wavestation, and those arent all that expens

I just got turned onto the soft synths a few months ago. I use the MiniMoog and the Korg Legacy collection. Been eyeing up the Prophet but haven't found a demo to try it out yet.

As a hardcore synth geek, I recommend the Juno. It's got analog sound and interface but also digital perks...including midi which is very good. I'm personally thinking about getting the new Alesis micro synth it looks like a ton of fun, and its cheap.

I actually got into synth 5 years ago in the 8th. the first one i played was a korg DW-6000. sinces then i've been looking to move on down the line.

Seriously, man. The Juno. That's my best recommendation. I went synth shopping with a pal of mine, tried to sell her on it, and then bought one myself when she didn't, lol.
