"I can't believe I just heard that song!"

Ever hear an obscure-to-the-general-public new wave song on the radio or at a restaurant/bar/club that you're impressed made it onto the playlist? I have two examples:

1. I was at a bar last night, and right after "Everybody Wants To Rule The World" came Devo's "Snowball." That made me happy.
2. A new concert venue was opening in Atlanta a few years ago. While they were setting up for the opening band, they played XTC's Black Sea album in its entirely. Totally awesome.

I got a kick out of hearing XTC's "Thanks for Christmas" on the mall store Muzak during the holidays...

I heard the Runaways "Cherry Bomb" at the CVS pharmacy a few months ago . . . very odd. I almost dropped my Tuck's medicated ass pads.

That last part didn't happen at all by the way. It was merely for effect - I held on to them very tightly.

I too heard XTC this holiday season, but not the Muzak version, the original! [:)]

Well Christmas brings out all of those gems tucked away in the closet. A station in my area always plays REM's "Toyland," which I've been trying to get my hands on for years...but it only went out to their fan club members.

Went to IKEA this weekend, they were playing all '80s artists, many new wave tunes, I herd U2, Altered Images, Thompson Twins, Big Country, Wall of Voodoo, The Waitresses, Adam & The Ants, a bunch more I can't remember... I really enjoyed my trip there this time because I usually do not!

My local Friendly's restaraunt always has some great 80's tunes playing. Sioxsie and the Banshees, Depeche Mode, the Cure, General Public etc... makes taking the kids to dinner less painful. [:)]

Not New Wave but one of my Favs.
I heard "Dr. Wu" by steely Dan whilst in Long's Drugs purchasing sundries and such. I was suprised to say the least.

I remember going to Las Vegas in the early 80's, and while watching my Dad play blackjack at 3 in the morning at the Flamingo hotel, I heard coming over the hotel's speakers XTC's Black Sea album (yes, they were playing the whole album). It was hard to hear it though, they had the volume really low, but it was a surprise!

More recently, the local Bed, Bath & Beyond on 6th Ave. in Manhattan plays some decent stuff over their piped-in music. I was about to leave and "Half a Boy, Half a Man" by Nick Lowe started playing! I stayed just to hear the song, and left after it, when "Cruel Summer" by Bananarama came on.
