LOL! That's a bit of a misleading article title though (shockingly from Fox news). Two of the four major types of tests would have required microbes to be living under those conditions for metabolism to take place and be observed. The carbon uptake test didn't rely on it however, and the gas chromatograph test specifically aimed to ionize (that's "kill" for you non-Duck Dodgers in the 24 1/2th Century fans) the subject to examine it's base components. It would have been destroyed whether or not they were looking for the right components of "life".

It's like saying Blir Destroys Life On Earth! Why yes, I did eat a ham sandwich today but I didn't destry ALL life on earth.
