Movies You'd Like To See Remade

Marv's topic of Movies that should be left alone got me thinking. What movies do you think could be remade today. Has enough time passed that something significant could be added? Is there a modern performer perfect for a classic role?

What do you want to see & who would you cast?

For me, I think the Grapes of Wrath could be remade. The reason, today we could have a more faithful adaptation of the original story than the original - especially with the original ending. Granted, the old one was pretty bleak, and the story even moreso, but I think we could handle it. It's also such a significant time in history that I don't think enough people know about.

I'd put Ed Norton in the Tom Joad role. He's the right age & he can play sympathetic and scary pretty well. Henry Fonda never seemed like a criminal to me.

Ma Joad is a little harder. My first instinct is to say Kathy Bates because she's the right age & physically like Jane Darnell. She absolutely can play the softer parts of the character, but I don't think she has that hardness & edge that the character needs. I might choose someone like Tyne Daly. She's got the harsher qualities, looks the part and I think has that stoic acting style that fits the character.
