Culture Club 12"

Postby danadotcom » Wed Dec 13, 2006 12:58 pm

Anyone care to share with me MP3s of the only two 12" versions from Culture Club worth owning on CD but have NEVER been issued on CD: "I'm Afraid Of Me" & "White Boy"? I have them on vinyl (several times, actually), but while "I'll Tumble 4 You" & "Move Away" are everywhere, these two gems have yet to be issued on disc! Someone really dropped that ball when both were ommitted from their boxset. Actually, someone dropped more than the ball when they decided to include so much of Boy George's solo material on that set. Anyway, if anyone can oblige me with this I'd be more than thrilled. OH! And the 12" 6 minute + version of "Gusto Blusto"! Just the Rock Mix has been issued on 12" Collection & More. Thanks!

Well, I'm glad I'm not the only one here who has this opinion. I would have purchased a seperate boxset of Boy George's solo material, so there was no logical reason--in my mind anyway--why so much Culture Club stuff had to compromised the boxset. There were so many great tracks left unreleased on disc for so many years that I thought for sure that many of them were going to be on it. I mean, I can find the 12" to Miss Me Blind & I'll Tumble 4 Ya on any given number of comps, so the time for White Boy & I'm Afraid Of Me 12 inchers was way overdue. Speaking of George's solo material on the box...Use Me was left off! That's the one track that should have been included at all. It's a terrific song and rather hard to come by. Peter Asher's demos with the band, Mikey Craigs' solo outings, Heartbeat UK's single--all this could have been mined for the box. But anyway...

I have all the tracks you folks are looking for & will do my best to get them up before the end of the year...work is sucking the life out of me right now & we are in the process of upgrading our computer...so I had to backup a lot of stuff to disc cos we ain't got an external hardrive.

About the boxset...it was quite disappointing & you can thank Boy George for that...he was the only member of the band to be consulted (& if I'm not mistaken he owns quite a few of the rarities Virgin needed) hence he went hog wild with all the solo stuff. Interestingly, the group's original producer, Steve Levine, has noted that a few of the earlier demos were in such a state of disintergration that they were not salvageable at all. You can hear bits of sound drop-outs on a couple of the demos on the boxset.

The real rabid fans are always looking for the original EMI demo's of "Eyes of Medusa" & "I'm An Animal"...

Have great Xmas everyone...back soon with these tracks for ya!

PERFECT!!! I haven't heard "Use Me" in probably 15 years and it sounds just as good today. The 12" versions are great quality, too. Thanks so much for sharing those! I remember about 5 years ago there was a scheduled release for tracks that were even earlier than anything on the box, but it was cancelled. I even placed an advance order for it at AmazonUK. I'd love to hear something new from the group, but honestly, I think I'd rather hear older stuff from them. Outtakes, unreleased tracks, all that stuff. I'd especially like to hear a lot more from From Luxury To Heartache, an extremely underrated album. It never deserved the poor reviews it got and should have reached a much bigger audience than it did. While Waking Up With The House On Fire has its own limited charm, From Luxury... puts that record to shame--and Fire was reviewed much more favorably. I think that was the point that Goerge completely destroyed the group. The more I read about and research Culture Club, it was his ego that was a large part of the band's demise. I can never tell if Shirley Temple Moment was put on the box as an unwitting admission by Boy George or if he was completely pointing the blame at himself. Either way it's both hysterical and ridiculous. Anyway, thanks again for the great Christmas present! It fit perfectly.

Cool, nice upload! I think I have a 12" picture disc with the "Afraid/WhiteBoy" remixes, but it might be different than what you posted here (loooong time since I listened to it).

That was marvelous! It sounds much better in this more organic setting than with all the backing tracks on the LP and mix versions. Stuff like this track is was I wish the entire boxset was like!!! I'm going to be shamelessly greedy and ask if you have anything else of intrigue to share...like 12" of Work On Me Baby or Gusto Blusto? Or anything that truly odd? You've open the box and have me wanting more. I bake for a living and lately Culture Club has been the only thing blasting in my kitchen...Well, that and the occasional Santa Claus Is Coming To Town.

Hey AYH
Could you please repost "Use Me" & the "Sexuality" demo.
Do you possibly have the B-side version of "I Pray" & the other B-side of "KMIM"?
I have the records but no way to listen to them anymore.

Thanks!

Will have to hold tight for "I Pray"...I only have the Funky Easter Mix (think it's a bootleg remix) on my iTunes...the other versions are on backup discs that I will dig out when I'm on my hols beginning next month...promise.

Enjoy!
