There's literally entire library floors at universities on the subject of evolution alone. Genetics is one of those factors used to show it happened. Now, to a creationist, the question as to whether they believe in a perfect god makes no sense since that god made quite a few errors in the scheme of man. This is the same god who created the powerful beings known as "angels" and who created the universe and who makes supernatural shit happen all the time. How can that god get it so freakin' wrong? Gives the word "godawful" a proper meaning[:D]
So, what exactly does having floors of books devoted to a particular subject prove? That there are too many people putting there own spin on the subject? I think your statement should be worded, "Genetics is one of those factors used to TRY TO show it happened. As far as I know, (and I'm no expert on this by any means) there have yet to be discovered ANY direct links between species. There has been much speculation about one species evolving into another but no definitive proof. What truly amazes me is that after years of trying to simulate this in controlled environments scientist cannot duplicate what supposedly happen by mere chance.
I'm not a creationist as I do not believe God created the Earth is six literal days. But that's another subject. If God did create everything as we know it, he must have unbelievable power, wisdom and knowledge. To say that he made quite a few errors in making man is a very presumptuous statement. Do you have ALL the facts about why things might be the way they are? Is your intelligence and understanding that far advanced that you would know better than the one who created it all? Is it possible things are the way they are for a reason? To me it's called the big picture. If you are incapable of seeing it then maybe a deeper study of the Bible might be in order before you go blaming God for everything YOU see as wrong in the world. The answers truly are there if you put forth an honest effort.

It shows there's more than the mere vernacular meaning of "theory" of evolution. It means basically any scientist worth his/her salt is "spinning" towards the fact evolution happened and that only a few stragglers with their own religious agenda tend to deny it.
I think your statement should be worded, "Genetics is one of those factors used to TRY TO show it happened. As far as I know, (and I'm no expert on this by any means) there have yet to be discovered ANY direct links between species.
You can re-word what I wrote and attribute your own ideas (i.e. put words in my mouth, so to speak). The way I worded my statement suffices for me, thank you very much. Go to your nearest university library and do a search for "speciation" in a database such as medline. You'll get plenty of research papers (I'd check the ones which are peer-reviewed first) whereupon it discusses laboratory findings of speciation.

It's just a question I had in regards to observations. I already said that it makes no sense to me how this perfect God makes mutants who cannot survive on their own sometimes. Pshaw. You want me to be OMNISCIENT before I question something? You call it "presumptuous." I call it "making an obvious observation."
Is your intelligence and understanding that far advanced that you would know better than the one who created it all? Is it possible things are the way they are for a reason? To me it's called the big picture.
So, you truly want me to be omniscient, right? Ooookay, then.

I can't blame God for anything. It would be like blaming the invicible underwear gnomes for the missing underwear. Hell, even if I was omniscient, I couldn't make sense of Semitic and/or Christian mythology. For example, the concept of "free will" is one of the major themes discussed in the Bible, but... if God only does what is right and what is good every time, all the time, how can that be "free will"? God is never wrong - nor does he ever do evil. Is this free will? If so, how come man does not have this form of "free will"? I mean, looking at the big picture here, the Semitic God has a predictable nature: He knows past, present, and future. Therefore, knows every choice and its result even before it is done. Wow. That's so cool. I wish I had that kind of free will/choice. Instead, we're stuck doing God's will - which is totally unknown to us and later on to be judged and punished for doing it[}:)] St Thomas Aquinas wrote on the subject, but I never went beyond the library card catalogue...

We can debate the existance of God for the next hundred years, but we'll all get our answer soon enough once we're dead. As for me, I'm not taking any chances. Eternity is a helluva long time to be pondering about "could have's" and "should have's".

I was raised catholic... now, there's a philosophical/religious/scientific struggle concerning my opinions about God.
I think I'm heading to a scientific vision of existence and creation... possibly, cause I get proofs of it on a regular basis.

Hutter, it almost sounds as if you're doing it out of fear.

I have an open question: If I were to live my life as per the dictates of the Bible/Koran/whatever and chose to ignore the deity worship end of things, does that make me less of a person in the eyes of God/Allah/whatever?

Not that anyone (outside of Utah) can offer a definitive answer, but I'd be interested in some thoughts.

That's a bit limiting...it also sounds a bit simplistic.

No doubt - it's kinda two sides to the same supernatural coin. I think a lot of people here are thinking of two different coins entirely.

Speaking of which, I don't see the validity of judging the spiritual world on observations of the physical one or vice versa. They're different things. It doesn't make sense that knowledge of the measurable gives you knowledge of the immeasurable, nor does an in-omniscient being claiming absolute knowledge of the omniscient strike me as credible. I think you can certainly learn from the thought processes you apply to one or the other but not 'what' you learn about one to the other.

If that means fear of burning for eternity, then yeah. A large part of it is fear. Fear is something we all could use more of when it's appropriate. I fear putting myself in front of oncoming traffic. I fear having unprotected sex. I fear becoming a drug user and getting contaminated needles. I fear eating undercooked meat. Fear is good, it keeps us out of trouble.

I also love God, and the reward is spending eternity in his presence. I fear spending it in Hell, where there will be nothing but misery. Clear enough?

Go ahead and mock my "simplistic" POV if that tickles your fancy. Like I said, we'll all know the answer to God's validity once we're dead.

Don't get so uptight, nobody's mocking your beliefs, I just don't happen to share them.

Maybe you want to take a shot at my question: " If I were to live my life as per the dictates of the Bible/Koran/whatever and chose to ignore the deity worship end of things, does that make me less of a person in the eyes of God/Allah/whatever?" because really, it should be about more than simple servitude, right?

Is the only way this debate will end is one conceding to the others beleifs or the first to reach the other side to give rap on the table? I'll stand fast in my convictions regardless of what others may say, even as illogical they may seem.
