Tom Cruise dubbed Scientology's Jesus
- Church believes he will spread the word of Scientology across the world

Tom Cruise is the "Christ" of Scientology.

The actor, who is a devout follower of the bizarre sci-fi cult, has been hailed by leaders of the faith as the "chosen one" who will spread the word of the religion.

High-ranking Scientologist David Miscavige is convinced in years to come Cruise, 44, will be worshipped like Jesus all over the world as he becomes a prophet for the religion.

A source close to the actor is quoted by The Sun as saying: "Tom has been told he is Scientology's Christ-like figure. Just like Christ, he has been criticised for his views. But future generations will realise he was right, just like Jesus."

Cruise, who is one of the top ranking Scientologists, joined the Church of Scientology in the mid-80s and his wife Katie Holmes has also converted to the faith.

The religion's founder, American science fiction writer L Ron Hubbard, claimed that extra terrestrial beings were sent to planet Earth by intergalactic ruler Xenu, who then blew up the aliens with hydrogen bombs in a volcano.

Let this whole Tom Cruise thing simmer for about 2000 years and he very well could be the flavour of the day then[}:)]

You have to believe their is an almighty regardless if your religous or not. How did we or the earth get here? Big bang created the earth and we evolved out of a puddle of ooze. If so where did all the materials that collided together come from? The universe just didn't exist on it's own. Is it just a coincidence that earth is the only planet in our solar system that supports life as we know it. I say God exists, but that is for everyone to decide on thier own.

If it wasn't coincidence, you wouldn't be here to contemplate the coincidence. [^]

Evidence for the existence of a controlling force that we do not see does exist however at the sub-atomic level, according to quantum physics. Experiments with electrons shot through an electron gun have shown this to be the case.

(I saw this in the movie "WHAT THE BLEEP DO WE KNOW")[:I]

Life as we know it cannot exist on other planets in our solar system because it's impossible. It has nothing to do with coincidence.

I hope that the succinct possibility of life (as we know it or not) on other planets in other galaxies wouldn't diminish your belief in God [|)]

All us new wavers debating this subject when I'm sure the greatest minds throughout the centuries have debated it as well. They probably had the same exact results as this thread.

My final word here is that when i do make it to Heaven, I hope that there is a place for non believers who led good lives and then maybe just maybe I'll bump into Motors and the likes. [;)][:D]

Ben you are a cool guy![8D]

I don't think that people should be forced to believe in anything that they don't want to. me, I'm torn in what to believe really. Most of the time I believe in God, more now than ever but, sometimes I have my doubts.

In general (and this is the gist of what I got from taking an undergrad class in quantum physics and calculus), the Big Bang is an arbitrary reference point in time. Someone correct me if I got the idea wrong, but the Big Bang does not explain how the energy was created - it only says there was energy and there was a big explosion which transformed the energy into the different elements we see today.

God changed all that back in 1984.
I' ve been a believer since then.
I' ve accepted Jesus Christ as my personal Saviour.

This thread actually motivated me to watch my Stephen Hawking Universe DVD box set again last night. The Big Bang is universally accepted as THE point in time of creation. The Catholic Church even accepts it as the point of Creation as well. Let's not forget that some of the world's foremost scientists have been Catholic and even clergy. The Pope even gave Prof. Hawking a medal in 1975 for his role in formulating the Big Bang theory. With science and the Catholic church on the same page, it seems they are not eye to eye though. They actually told Hawking and the scientific community not to research anything before the Big Bang.

If I may deign to postulate.....

There is also the theory of the Big Crunch, to which Hawking also subscribes - even though it hasn't been proven yet (I could be wrong. These DVDs came out in 1997. Alot could have happened since then.) Anyway, the Big Crunch states that the universe will at some point in time slowly begin to halt it's expansion and eventually begin to contract due to gravitational forces. If you could see the Big Bang and the subsequent expansion of the univese on a film strip, imagine it going in reverse all the way to the beginning. This is the theory of the Big Crunch.

Like when a star dies, implodes and goes supernova - a gargantuan release of elemental matter and energy after maximum contraction - perhaps the Big Bang (the ultimate release of all energy and matter from a singular atom of ultimate density) was the result of the same such gravitational implosion...the Big Crunch.

It seems to me that the nature of the cosmos itself is the supreme example of the rhythms we see here on Earth. The coming and going of the tides, the cycle of the seasons, the path that nitrogen takes in feeding plants which feed livestock which feed people and when we die, feeds the plants again.

I say research events prior to the Big Bang when possible. In that, I think we'll discover that the Big Bang was the ultimate Resurrection story. If you want to look at it that way[|)]

LOL.

Hawking: "Um...okay...I won't look behind the singularity. Check-check."
