If it's true I don't know whether to be excited or not. It sounds great on the surface but does this mean that Sting has realized the fact that he is out of musical ideas and is now settling for retread complacency?

The Police quit at the top of their game and those memories are now at risk of being tainted by "has beens" trying to relive past glories. It makes me think of The Eagles and other superstar bands that cash in by dragging the carcass of their greatest hits packages out for a lucrative, going-through-the-motions, reunion tour.

On the other hand, it could be great. And since I've never seen them live I'd probably pay any price to see them. Maybe that makes me part of the problem.

Keeping fingers crossed.

PS Kudos to Georgie for actually creating a post about a bona fide New Wave band!

hey guys i was lucky to see the police live at walt disney world in orlando florida way back in late 1977 when the three of them were touring out of a van.this tour was before their debut album came out in the states.i actually bought the single roxanne as an import from my local record shop & when i heard they were going to be there.....i was there!!!!! it was awesome!!!! they were performing in this corner right by the bathrooms where the people mover ride is & there was only 3 of us standing there listening to this awesome music.i also remember watching them load their instruments out of their fan to set up....i got some awesome pics of them from that show too. then a year later roxanne came out in 1978 in the states then you couldnt touch them!!!!!

I'm holding out a (faint) glimmer of hope they would at least do a festival gig or two rather than strictly stand alone concerts that'll in all likelyhood command a 3 figure ticket price.[V]

At least I was fortunate enough to see them in '81 & '83

I wouldn't mind seeing them, but I can't imagine spending $125 to see them from Section 255, Row XX of Omnicorp Arena, or even worse, Huge Football Stadium. [xx(]

The last album, Synchronicity, was the crappiest work they produced.

I understand what you are saying. A lot of it was/is overplayed but I would never consider it to be a crappy album (I know you said crappiest they produced).

The Police reportedly offered huge amount for tour

If a report out of the UK is to be believed, the Police are looking at a staggering amount of money for a reunion tour. According to The Sun, well-known concert promoter Michael Cohl wants the band for dates in Europe and North America, and he's offered them 150 million British pounds sterling, which is worth about $294 million based on the exchange rate on Monday, February 5th. No one will go on the record to confirm that the Police will tour this year, but there have been a lot of rumors to that effect.

Police guitarist Andy Summers told us that a reunion tour would be incredibly lucrative for the band: "It's frightening to think about, because I think we could earn more in four months than we did in seven years, you know?"

Cohl is a Canadian promoter who's worked with the Rolling Stones for about 20 years, and he's also done tours for U2, Pink Floyd, and David Bowie, among others, so he's more than capable of getting the money together for the Police, if he's so inclined.

The Police have been in Vancouver, British Columbia, where they've rehearsed for their appearance on the Grammy Awards on Sunday (February 11th). It will be their first time on stage together since the group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in March 2003.

My wife says she doesn't care what the tickets cost, we are going if the Police tour.
I'm lucky, I saw them twice back in the day:
1/29/82 - The Police/Go Go’s - Ghost in the Machine tour, Richfield Coliseum, Ohio- $10.50 for the ticket
7/30/83 - The Police, Syncronicity tour, Richfield Coliseum, Ohio - $12.50 for the ticket
